Is Ben McCollum the best coach in the country?

this run started right after the cheerleader made that indecent proposal
not sure it's fair to ascribe all the success to coaching
:)

Where Iowa's roster was two years ago:

• Bennett Stirtz - NW Missouri State (D2)
• Tavion Banks - NW Missouri State (D2)
• Alvaro Folgueiras - Robert Morris
• Cam Manyawu - Wyoming
• Kael Combs - Wyoming

• Isaia Howard - 3-star HS recruit
• Tate Sage - 3-star HS recruit
• Cooper Koch - 4-star HS recruit

Ben McCollum is a wizard at developing/getting the best out of players.

0.1% Chance that Ben leaves in the next few years.

1) Hawkeye born and bred
2) His wife doesn't want to move AGAIN
3) In the middle of building a multi-million $ house

I'm sure there's more reasons, but he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Carver renovation coming.

A big raise coming.

Big donors stepping up so we can land that too expensive big (last year) that Ben craves? We need a PG, too. :)

Ben could be here for another 25 years (makes him 70) if he wants to be.

At this point in time, you can certainly make that argument. He has certainly achieved a lot during the regular season, and has advanced further in tourney, than anyone predicted. He could easily win Coach of the year IMHO.

Thankfully, I don't think he cares about personal accolades -he just wants his team to win.

I'm just dreaming of the difference in recruiting this will make.

Talk about a change in how you can pitch to kids

"You saw the NCAA tournament, right?"
"We are building something and that was just the foundation"

"If you think you're tough enough, come here and prove it. We'll get better together"

I don't know about 25 year but who knows? We are only one year in and it ended well.
That said, next year is a total mystery given that we will lose Stirtz (and maybe Banks).
Big opportunity to capitalize on success and get a couple of great players from portal. If they don't pan out then we are in trouble....
In this new NIL era, the pendulum swing for teams each year is potentially big!

He is the same coach that went 10 and 10 in the big and looked like the same coach that lost to PSU against IL.

Crown him king in several years of NIL and being at power conference then.

That said, it was a nice unexpected run.

If that is as deep as your understanding goes, it’s probably best for you to just stay on the farm.

Totally agree with the slow the roll thing. This is reminding me of the Kansas State hype train they had going when Tang was so successful his first year with a stud guard. As we all know that didn't quite work out for them and they paid him millions to leave . So I will cross my fingers and proceed cautiously. As one great game does not project long term success. And yes, that's what this was is one big win against a #1 seed, beating the Huskers is something that should happen on a normal basis.
