So why is this hard

1. You have Quantenance allegedly making 2M to do zilch….and why we paid Garrison at all was more Pope buffoonary..:there is plenty to pay Moreno without increasing the budget

2. The big decision is Moreno a five out offense center in time. Csn he handle end pass to initiate offense….or is there a better big out there for this team

But rhe money should not be an issue

The problem is that Pope is the coach. Moreno under Purdue's coach or Rick or anyone else he would be a higher caliber player. They wouldn't put up with his laziness and softness. They would correct it.

Because we don't have anyone coming in next year, and Pope is the Whiff Master, we need Moreno back. I think the guy has a ton of potential.

He has some of the worst hands I saw on a big this season. I love the kid. A kentucky kid but he isnt worth more than a Mil

Bingo. His putrid post-season performance basically negated all of the progress he seemed to make during the regular season. I mean I cant remember someone looking more goofy, unathletic, uncoordinated than he did in the ncaa tournament. Just absolutely laughable his performance.

You guys kill me. Just give up, on a talented FRESHMAN and think Pat Ewing is out there just dying to play at Ky.
Uk just spent the most of all college basketball and we sucked. Barely a top 30 team.
Throwing money at the young players isn’t the answer. They are still kids.
Go after some JRs and Srs

It’s all Pope. Just like CMS.

All makes sense to me. If they want him back he’s probably going to be our 3rd or 4th highest paid player on the roster.

I bet he easily tops 2M. C is an extremely weak position for the portal. This posturing just feels like I’m coming back to UK but I’m not coming at a discount.

Look, if the $22M number was true, then Oweh, DA, Quaintance and Lowe had to make about $14-15M of it. Give him a bump, if he turns it down plenty of others will take it
I could see each of them making 2-3 million, maybe a little more

Thats what I am saying.
We had to pay them at least $12M-14M. Did we pay the entire roster over $1M each? Did Hawthorne make a million? Those four had to make the bulk of it IMO, whatever it was

Chances are we were probably one of the more expensive rosters, don’t know about 22 but we’re definitely on the high end

My guess is the core playing returning group of Moreno/Kam/Chandler, will probably cost 5.5-7M total.

Moreno will be between 2-3. Chandler between 1.5-2.5. Kam between 1.25 and 1.75.

That leaves us at least 2 3M type Stokes/portal/overseas additions and more selective budget conscious depth.

"outperforming his first year deal"

I mean listen. I like him. He's a good player. I think the longer he stays here, he can develop into a key piece moving forward but.............come on now lol.

Maybe I just have a bad perception of what exactly "worth" is in this NIL era. Yeah he may have been one of the lower paid guys but we had 22 million (apparently). It wasn't that he got paid too low. The other guys got paid too high. Especailly considering what other schools are doing with much less (again apparently) NIL funds.

I don't see stokes coming for 3 mil! IMO it'll take 5 million!

These numbers are not close to possible if the list posted on here the other day of top 20 Nil college athletes is accurate (I forget the source publication or who actually posted it). Number 20 was listed at 2.1 million as I recall and UK had no one on the list.

Arizona is doing pretty good with a Center who is now a JR, but couldn't have carried Moreno's gym bag as a freshman. Like any freshman, you expect Moreno to improve significantly with experience and maturity. Plus you start with the fact that Moreno was one of, if not the best, freshman Center in Power 5 CBB.

Easy, take the money we spent on JQ and give half or a third or whatever to MM. While we're at it, we can cut Garrison's share and put whatever is left in toward a couple stretch bigs.
I know I'm in the minority. The vast minority...but I'd love to have a senior Brandon Garrison coming off the bench. I'll never understand the hate towards him. Is he a great player? Na. But he's decent energy guy. He's not that bad of a player. Especially if Pope can get it out of him every game.

I don't get why he's bashed so much for a energy bench guy. Yea I get it sometimes he came in the game and didn't bring the energy. He's always been talked down on like he is supposed to be our star player.

Senior BG is a heck of a role player imo.

I agree he should be a big part, but we need a center than can actually grab a tough rebound and not lose the ball consistently. A rim protector would be nice too.

Let him walk let him walk let him walk

At thise end of the day, he's a freshman. If it wasn't for his turnaround jumper at LSU, the season would've probably collapsed even worse than it did. Yes, he needs to work on a lot, especially his hands, but that's how it's supposed to go. This isn't Cal years. We begged for kids to get developed for over a decade and when we finally have a coach that doesn't deal in 1&D religiously, we sht talk these freshmen. Yes, they're getting paid, but they're getting paid to contribute AND improve.

Don’t let the lack of reporting of other teams NILs suggest most of these top teams don’t have large NIL budgets. Heck just look at LSU with Will Wade getting a 14-15M NIL budget commitment. Yes schools like Iowa/Nebraska/Iowa St had good years with small budgets but they’re more outliers.

Moreno plays a scarce position, has high school pedigree, flirted with draft boards(I don’t really know why but he did lol), and Evan Miya’s BPR rating has him as a top 125 player in the country. All those will combine for a significant pay day here or elsewhere.

I don't understand people spouting off monetary numbers. We don't even know what our own guys make, much less other players. That said, if players come back, then Pope didn't whiff. We have a solid but not great nucleus in place. If I had to get two guys(only), I get a stud PG1 and a big time rim protector. We can improve at other spots but those are the biggest IMO. I love MM and hope he returns but he's not a dominant inside man and doesn't currently have the skill set to run the 5 out either. UF is a good example of how we could be built next year with just two additional guys, though. Everybody likes high octane offense but give me a great point guard and a top 5 or so front court in the country and I'd run with that. We have to improve on defense more than anything, too but if we have a solid front court, stud pg1 and play defense, we'll be very solid next season without a ton of roster turnover.
