I can't stand hockey, UNLESS, I can go in person to a game. Watching it on tv is ALMOST ( but not quite) as awful as soccer on tv, however, the in person experience for me is totally different and great, and the soccer in person isn't. When Jackson and Bernie Ebbers had the Jackson Bandits it was a blast to go watch them. Lots of promotions so tickets were cheap, lots of on ice games and giveaways during timeouts, halftime, etc, a t-shirt drop from "the Trustmark blimp" flying in the coliseum.

But a damn politician screwed it up. Bernie wanted to sell beer in the coliseum to try to help turn a profit but Ag Commissioner Lester Spell said no, he wanted it to be a wholesome family atmosphere in the coliseum. Never mind that there were 4 Bud Light ads you could see embedded under the ice, Bud Light signs on the scoreboards, and beer readily available in the "beer gardens" spread out all along the midway just outside the coliseum doors during the fair, which is much more of a "family atmosphere" than hockey. Damn hypocrite................

I used to enjoy the Bandits games too. Don’t forget though having to be on the road for a month due to the Dixie National also caused problems. Not that I have anything against the Dixie National but it did cause a problem for hockey.

That said, I like watching it on tv. Just wish there was a way to see the puck better.

Yes hockey is much more enjoyable in person. We used to Riverkings games when they were in Southaven and sit down by the glass behind the goalie. Guys would get slammed against the glass right in front of us.

It has blown my mind how much the sport has grown. I have gotten into it over the last few years.

I couldn't even tell you what time of the year its played now. We aren't going to see any local news coverage in MS and I swore off Sports Center and all the other clones years ago and dang sure can't sit and watch it on tv

Again, it's not a TV sport. It's an in person sport.
Hockey will never be a TV sport. But attendance at all levels is showing strong growth.

Not so much nhl growth. They’re limited by venue size & come close to selling out most games. Minor league is where the room for growth is and where the growth is.
