Someone tell Robbie that we could only hope to land one of the three. Jesus, we are flat out dumb as a box of rocks.
Recognizing the need to shower doesn't mean you are dumb. I don't care about women's basketball, so whatever on hiring Mulkey, but I would gladly have MSU hire Kiffin and Will Wade even though I would want to shower twice every morning while they're employed at MSU.

You would hope that the real leaders have more vision than Robbie. At least to the tip of their nose.

While I certainly enjoy watching college sporting events, I don't think anyone can deny that the win at all cost attitude that has consumed most schools is just disgusting. Had always been that way to an extent but since the NIL/transfer portal era has been here nobody even tries to hide it anymore. I mean let's just find the highest paid mercenary coaches and players we can so we can stick our chest out that we won some games with players wearing our university's name on the jersey. Before long I don't even think it will be a prerequisite that you have to be an actual student of the university to play for the university.

LSU is the prime example of where college athletics is heading.
Absolutely. With the schools now taxing the alumni more than ever, the willingness to turn a blind eye to win will be higher than ever.

Say what you want, they are committed to winning. This new environment is perfect for a school like LSU.

LSU has a leadership void that makes Keenum/Selmon look competent. New president from McNeese and new athletic director that has never sat in the big chair. They are hiring McNeese's AD to be the actual AD. All with a governor that wants to play General Manager of LSU athletics. They are just throwing money at it and thinking it will work. It will not. There will be a crash and burn of epic proportions at LSU and I am here for it.

LSU will do fine under the new model, but I think they were better off under the old model. There are going to be more indianas. Schools with huge, reasonably affluent alumni bases are going to make it hard on schools that have relied more on fan intensity than pure numbers. LSU is in good shape on both, obviously, but very few schools had the numbers and intensity before. Now you still have the Alabama and Auburns that are intense, but just in the Big 10 there are several schools that have intense fans but not "let's get 6 figures cash to hand over to a high schooler" intense, that are going to be much more dangerous. PSU, Wisconsin, Purdue ad all schools that could be dangerous with the right coach. Then you have schools that are more like Indiana and don't necessarily even care now, but if they make one good hire could drum up passion in the fan base (
(University of Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota, Arizona State, Arizona, UNC, etc). Definitely not going to be easy for any of those schools to make a jump (IU really probably just caught lightening in a bottle), but there was basically zero chance of them competing with LSU consistently before.

Honestly, other than the CFP semis & finals, I’m not sure when the last college sporting event I’ve seen. Mississippi State excluded of course.

Their three major men's programs are led by a *****, thug and a California carpetbagger. As long as they win, I guess it's okay.

Money they don't have.
Exactly.

Not only am I an alum of dear ol' State, I completed my graduate work at LSU. One of the perks of having a degree from LSU was always that they waived out of state tuition for dependents of alumni (something I think we should do, but that's another conversation).

A few years ago, they eliminated this on a whim. No phase out. Their reasoning was that "We are a national brand and other similar schools do this." Except academically, LSU is not Georgia/Auburn/Texas. It backfired on them. They do not get the out of state students that those schools get.

So they started learning more havily into TOPS, the Louisiana Lottery Scholarship. Basically if you are TOPS eligible and have a pulse, you can get into LSU. They started attracting kids that would normally be looking at UNO (now LSU-New Orleans, by the way), Southern, Grambling, McNeese, etc. and the culture changed dramatically.

Last year they had a shooting at a tailgate. Walking on their campus during a big tailgate is no longer getting Tigerbaiting, its your kids not seeing sexual deviancy. It was so bad after one game last year that the president sent an apology email to all alumni. So now the wealthy Louisiana families that used to pour into LSU are choosing Texas A&M, Arkansas, Alabama and Ole Miss over LSU.

What they are spending athletically will be a huge impact if Kiffin doesn't deliver a deep playoff run or a national title. If LSU goes 8-4 a couple years, it will be chaos. They have gone all in on Kiffin and now Will Wade. There is no backup plan. They are spending money they don't have in hopes that the investment pays off. If it doesn't, LSU is in a major fiscal crisis. They might be either way.

Is it though? I think what he did is still illegal.
Now that players can be paid, coaches don't have to sneak money to players through intermediaries like family members or girlfriends or whomever. Maybe I'm misremembering the exact charges against Wade.
