What were PSU bonus points by weight?

Coach DT post tournament comments said we need to get better and score points. DT said he is not in this tournament to finish 2nd place. That tells me 125, 149, 165, 174 and 184 spots are not guaranteed by current guys. Maybe 125 but TS needs more bonus points for the team.

As mentioned by others, we need bonus points the 1st two rounds and then each weight place higher than 5th on podium to dethrone PSU. We'll get there...looking forward to next season already!

Troy had a really rough bracket path - wrestling Robinson twice and Liledahl. I can't see his spot being challenged next year.

PSU Bonus by weight:
125 - 1
133 - 4.5
141 - 0
149 - 5
157 - 7
165 - 5.5
174 - 6.5
184 - 4.5
197 - 5
285 - 1.5

PSU also earned all of them outside of the unfortunate Allred injury but Welsh was winning 7-1 at the time of the broken leg. OSU had 1/5 of their bonus earned through medical forfeits on the consi side. There’s no doubt that PSU can put up points, even more impressive is that they are getting better while being chased. Very excited about the future in Stillwater as they grow into more prolific scorers.

I think both VT and OSU will have great lineup till 157 next year, some of the points may be split between VT and OSU. But PSU stands alone with 165-197 hammer after hammer. Untill OSU or VT gets hammers on these weights. We cant close the gap.

125 - 1 seed...32, 17, 8, 5 and 10 seeds. But yes, not a ton of room for error at 125
133 - 3 seed...30, 19, 6 and 15 seed wins. Bonused the 30, 19 and 15.
141 - not good
149 - 1 seed...33, 16, 8 and 20 and lost to the 10. Bonused 33, 16 and 20
157 - 1 seed...33, 17, 8 and lost to the 5. Bonused everybody but 7 and the loss. Pretty impressive showing.
165 - 1 seed...bonus machine, but I am wondering what his cut is like? Friday morning was his only non-bonus and against the 9.
174 - 1 seed...great tourney from him.
184 - 1 seed...the default really helped his number. Easier path than the bottom side.
197 - 1 seed...animal
285 - 9 seed...teched the 23.

So yes, seed does matter some in this aspect, but PSU does look for the bonus really well!

Bah. Don't sweat the math. Yes bonus points but more importantly, keep running a good program that produces results and fosters a positive culture of excitement and accountability. That will be the difference maker for us and for every other competitive program. Who wants to go somewhere where setting records isn't worth celebrating? Where your training partners are allowed to get away with touching you inappropriately and your program is in the news for PED bans, prostitution stings, sexual assault, assaulting police officers, shoving guys off of elevated mats, snapping at their opponents? Where your fans go viral for being insanely rude to Jordan Burroughs? Where your coach accuses others of cheating right after he wins the National Championship (the same guy that bent the heck out of amateurism rules to build his RTC and thus enhance his college program)? All that crap happened just in the last year and most of it was swept under the rug, no apologies, no press releases, no nothing. I mean I don't even dig for wrestling news and I know about all those items. The answer is many kids will still want to go, but that number will decrease. We don't even all those kids to come here, they just need to see other programs as viable paths to their success.
💯 agree. Cael is just mad that he didn’t think of it first. Hopefully in the not so distant future, there will be more parity… while we come home with a national championship

This is first year of competing for both Dee and Zack. They will both get better. Facundo was 0-2 in NCAAs at PSU, he is 2-2 here. He definitely got better and will continue to get better.

Its a great idea on theory to RS Dee and Make Facundo and Zack to get one weight lower. But, not sure how the cut is going to be for those guys. And White is too inexperienced to directly take mantle at 184. He is not like Jax,Vega,Landon. He started wrestling late and he will need RS.

My ideal lineup will be Spratley, Raney, Jax, Vega, Landon, Facundo, Ryder, Transfer, Merrill, Transfer. For this to happen, we might lose some guys we love to portal too (Like Tagen or Swiderski). So not sure what I want.
I just listened to the Bader show on flo and he interviewed Jax, Landon, and Sergio for the whole show. They all answered the question how did you get to Oklahoma State and the answer for all 3 was David Taylor and that he felt they could start and be National Champs as true freshmen. The show was close to an hour long. Interesting.

What would that PSU dual look like?

125 - PSU 3-0
133 - Tied 3-3
141 - OSU 6-3
149 - Tied 6-6
157- OSU 9-6
165 - PSU 10-9
174- OSU 12-10
184- PSU 13-12
197 -PSU 16-12
285-PSU16-15

Now that could change in OSU's favor depending on who wrestles at 133,141, & 149 next year. Plus I think 125 will always be a toss up between TS & Lilledahl. Regardless sign me up for that dual at Paycom.

Now there are a ton of toss up matches IMO but it would be dang fun to watch.

what is your definition of a super recruit? Mikey White is the #1 ranked high school wrestler at 190lbs. You can’t compare everyone to Jax’s pedigree
Good question - IMO a "super recruit" is a Top-5 to Top-10 overall recruit regardless of weight. A Top-5 to Top-10 on Flo's "Big Board." Not someone ranked #1 in their weight class only. Big difference actually. Some weight classes will have multiple wrestlers in the Top-10. We have a lot of "super recruits" on the team and they have done pretty damn well. Jax, Sergio and Landon were all Top-6 I believe. So was Dee. Ross, Rainey Brothers, Casey was, Facundo, Ryder (5), Spratley (6) was. Merrill was 12th. 2024 was a really down recruiting year for us.

Speaking of which - I was looking back and two things. WOW this is easily the best predictor of future success. I mean they really, really nail it. No, not 100% perfect but the Top-10 to Top-20ish is a Who's- Who of NCAA Champions and All-Americans. And dang we whiffed on the 2023 Class - three Top 10 recruits who never panned out Thompson (4), Carroll (8) and Hughes (9). The others in the Top-10 that year are: 1) Shapiro 2) Keuter 3) McEnelly 5) Gabe Arnold 6) Rocco Welsh 7) Josh Barr 10) Tyler Kasak. Joey Blaze (18), Nicco Ruiz (15), Ryder Block (22), Ty Watters (24), etc.

Going over these again just now. You HAVE TO BE a Top-10 recruit on that list. That's it. I can't find a national champion who doesn't meet that criteria. Kinda crazy. So yes we have to stockpile the Super Recruits to beat Penn State. They probably have 15-20 on their roster currently.

Going back to 2021 and looking at Flo Big Board Top-10 Recruits it's pretty easy to see why Penn State is doing what they are doing. And why we are behind but could be catching up very fast. A comparison below:

2021: OSU 0, PSU 2 - Facundo #2, Shayne Van Ness #4, (Richie Figs #1, Ayala #5, Hamiti #6, Paddy Gallagher #3). Our biggest recruits were Voinovich #12 and Haas #18.

2022: OSU 0, PSU 1 - Levi Haines #9 (Swiderski #2, Feldman #1, Spratley #6, Bouzakis #4, Mendez #3, Caleb Henson #7, Antrell Taylor #30 - there's your outlier) Our biggest recruits were Jordan Williams at #12 and Anthony Ferrari at #14.

2023: OSU 3, Thompson #4, Carroll #8, Hughes #9, PSU 2 - Barr #7, Kasak #10

2024: OSU 0 Merrill was #12 and we ended up with Ryder, PSU 4 - Lilledahl #1, Ryder #5, Sealey #6, Connor Mirasola #7 (Ferrari #2, Davino #3, Sinclair #3, Aden Valencia #8, Jaxon Joy #23)

2025: OSU 3, Lockett #3, Robideau #5, Vega #7, PSU 2 - Blaze #1, Duke #2 (Knox #4, Seidel #10,)

2026: OSU 4, Forrest #1, Ross #4, Raney #5, Raney #6, also Zinkin #11, and Mikey White #55, PSU 1 - Jayden James #3 (Bassett #2, Adam Waters #7, Merrill #12, Mocco #13) Obviously this will get updated. White is wrestling Waters tomorrow.

Sorry my formatting sucks! We are going to catch them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....White wrestling Waters today where? Flo or ESPN+ televised?.........thanks...............
It is on Flow and is the Pittsburg Classic. Looks like there are 3 duals that begin 2:00pm our time. First is a dual where Pennsylvania girls wrestle Oklahoma girls seniors, 2nd dual Oklahoma boys all-star team against a Pennsylvania boy's all stars and the main events is the best Pennsylvania seniors versus a US all-stars team of senior boys.

Can you list who you think is starting for OSU? Not sure if you have anyone moving up weights. A dual would definitely be must see tv. I hope it happens.

I have no clue who will go at certain weights. Jax could be 133 or he could bump to 141 and Sergio could bump to 149 with Raney or Ronnie going at 133. Plus who knows who will in the lineup for PSU at 133, 141 next year.

Can’t wait to see the lineup next year.

For some of those who refuse to pay for Flo, anyone know how Mikey did tonight?
