Before Cal came to UK, I always thought Dean Smith did less with more talent than any other coach. Cal far surpassed him at UK though.
seems he would fit right in there. Bringing in top talent and making a few final 4’s occasionally.

Calipari has it made in Fayetteville! NIL $$$ seeping through every crack, a passionate fan base similar to, but smaller than BBN, and can still recruit the best of the best!

UNC will get their superstar coach regardless, while UK continues to catch up to Indiana, and the land of forever irrelevancy.

He would have great recruiting classes and lose to St Peters and Oakland.
Or maybe beat the overall number 1 seed, Ohio St, as a 4. Or beat the unbeaten Wichita St as an 8 then roll the 4 seed, Louisville? Or take a 38-0 team to the FF. We had some upset losses when we were great, yes. But we had far more successes.

But hey!! Look at us now!!

Or maybe miss the NCAA all together and lose in the NIT 2013 and 2021.

If he somehow gets past the AZ game and takes Ark to the FF this year, then goes to UNC and takes THEM to a FF (that's 5 different teams), he may have a solid claim to the 2nd best NCAA MBB coaching resume of all time, next to K. Wooden doesn't count, he was total **** without Gilbert's financial backing.

All of our rivals are strengthening their position. UNC is going to make a grand slam hire, and we'll be stuck with Mitch and Pope explaining away the losses and talking about fractions of a percent increases over the previous four years before Pope got here.

We're cooked. We have two Mayberry level losers running the program.

Outsiders telling us to be patient and quit calling for Pope’s job, it only hurts us with recruits and makes us look bad. I’m not changing, I want us to be in the thick of it every year and I don’t feel like Pope can get that done.
His head coaching career sample size is now up to 11 full seasons. In all that time, he's only won more 70% of his games three times. He's never won more than 75% of his games in a single season. He's never signed a top 15 player. He's never advanced past the Sweet Sixteen.

It's not going to get any better.

If we have Pope next year and UNC has Donavon, I won’t watch a single second of UK basketball. I’ll use that time for something better. Spending time with family, learning a new skill, or watching paint dry.
Why is EVERYONE misspelling his name? It is Donovan, not Donavon.

Well that sucks. I wont miss watching a UK until the day I die, barring a family emergency.
I agree. I hate feeling that way.
But at some point, what am I even rooting for? A program built by an AD who didn’t care? A coach substantially under qualified with zero chance of leading the program to a FF? A bunch of players who are only here for the payout and couldn’t care less about the school or the team?

If UNC hire Donovan, I seriously don't know if I can watch as long as Barnhart is employed by UK.

We need a homerun hire type coach but it won’t be Oats. He makes Cal look like choir boy. Too much baggage with Oats.

It won’t happen but honestly it would work pretty well.
Agreed. Cal is a great recruiter, great coach, and is one of the few guys still left who were part of the K, Roy, Jay Wright, Bennett and all those other coaches who have now retired. It’s him, Izzo, a few others and self who is likely on the way out. He was a hell of a coach in his prime here but he lost control at Kentucky. Coaches are like marriages…works at first but sometimes you just grow apart. Cal clearly can coach based off recent evidence.

Wait, wasn’t Cal an assistant to Larry Brown? Doesn’t that make him part of UNC family? Imagine how mad Kenny Smith would be 😂
