I would not want him here!! I do not want to cheer for a team with a scumbag as a coach.

Winning is not everything IMO. Winning with class is far more important to me. Thank goodness RU has never considered garbage like him for a coach.

I am proud to have this perspective. I am guessing those who love him would sell their soul to the devil too in order to win!
Bannon and Rice had rather poor experiences at Rutgers leading to their being fired,

I believe he was investigated by the Feds about pay for play with recruits. Also couple that with a sex scandel....I think he was doing a woman on a table at a restaurant; That did it for him.
Was that frowned upon by the powers that be at Louisville ? Had Pitino known he probably would have rented a room at a motel or something.
Hard to believe that they have higher standards than a good Catholic school like St. John's.

I'm so glad you posted this. I agree completely.
I draw the line at using hookers to recruit kids to a school. And anyone who thinks such things are OK is rooting for the wrong school. I suggest they try Pedd State.
You should probably just stop rooting for football teams in general if that bothers you. Although the insertion of $ as an issue hasn't lessened the need for much of the shenanigans.

I've been rooting for Rutgers for over 60 years. It's probably too late to stop now...apologies to Van Morrison.
But I don't root for teams that use hookers to recruit players. Bad coaching IMO.

Don't mind being singled out.
If I said or did it, I own the results.
I still have a hard time thinking RU should hire a HC that has a sketchy past, but like you implied, making a winning program that can compete with the best means fans must look past the sketchy part and embrace the winning one.
Schiano has a sketchy past but we hired him.

Not all sketchy pasts are the same. Some will bother just about everyone with their extremely sketchy past. Other sketchy activity will just bother a certain percentage of the public. Some will bother almost no one.
IMO Pitino clearly belongs in the first category. That's probably why Louisville cut loose such a great coach.

Actually they ae not so called fans but purests that are haning on to the outdated threay College Baketball is an amature sport with HC hired to win but also moled the playerts under them into productive citizans when their college career is over.
It never really was that way, but "so called " fans like myself deluded ourselves to think that way and want that to be the way the RU MBB program was/is.

Now some, like me, are feeling that the era of amateur sports passed a long time ago , the players are mercenaries
willing to jump for a buck and coaches now have no reason to mold their players into responsible citizens, just make sure they help the team win before they find a better paying spot to go to .
It's a just win system in which coaches having great moral fiber sounds nice, but is secondary to being considered a winner .

I'm still not sure if I want a Slick Rick or Houston's Keven Sampson or the retired Bruce Pearl, but online years ago I wouldn't oppose them or a known winner like them being hired.
I accept the just win state of mind ,because I know winning is everything now and winners are forgiven their transgression while those that play be the rules and lose fill the unemployment line
Sampson's transgressions seem rather quaint now. Pearl was a hypocite and a snitch. Pitino's level of grime was no more than most coaches that win at that level, the buying hookers for recruits notwithstanding.

Well, judging from Rutgers lack of recruiting success over the many years that I've been following them they need to upgrade to a better class of hookers.

I have zero respect for people with no character - like you and Pitino. You sound like Donald Trump. Both of you would consider me a major LOSER, and I would wear that as a badge of honor.

It does totally disgust me when posters here excuse evil behavior as OK, as long as the guy wins. He will be in the Hall of Fame, because there are far more people willing to excuse such behavior than there are people willing to demand character.

I was simply questioning the idea of not routing for a coach because of character issues.

Why not cheer for Pitino but then cheer for Greg?

it seemed inconsistent thinking.

have a great day

Now imagine how bad his transgressions had to be for Louisville to cut Hall of Fame Pitino loose.
Was it the banging a woman on a restaurant table or the hookers used for recruiting purposes that broke the camel's back ?

sometimes it is nice to show moral standards when many excuse the lack of them because winning is everything.
Hopefully it's not just boomers that express high moral standers they want from their School's HC , but those of all ages will lament how the need for wins overshadows a coach's conduct and not be insulted for it.
Sadly I realize that the winning is everything approach has become standard practice for most programs and their fan bases.

I have no problems with individuals not wanting or liking Pitino. I agree he by all accounts ofc the court displays very low if any moral compass.

My question before I was attacked was then how can you support a bad coach who can not come close to Pitno’s coaching achievements in Greg.

Our current head coach is tied too and was implicated in the countries largest children’s abuse case.

On my moral compass adultery is much much much lower on the scale then what happened to those kids at PSU.

If you apply morality be consistent .

You seem to have a serious dislike for both our basketball and football coaches. I don't know why but I'm kinda curious as to who is the most recent Rutgers football or basketball head coach you have liked....if any.

I like Puke a lot but feel he is over his head and behind the times for power 4 hoops.

Schiano don’t like is bully stick, or consistent lies and moving the needle and he is over his skis.

Liked flood the person 🤷‍♂️

But if they lead winning programs and were winning big, I think they would have been punished, but not fired.
If they did get fired for what happened, you can bet another college program would have them running their program instead of them being out of the college basketball game.

Schiano has a sketchy past but we hired him.
He was hired before the Nit pervert protection became public and despite all who are painting him with the same paintbrush they hasn't been one shred of proof he was involved excepting someone saying someone said something.
Unless your sketchy past is about something else, or you have proof more than unfounded accusation I'd agree with you , but until I know different, the benefit of doubt prevails . Especially since what was claimed said was denied by the person ( Tom Bradley) who McQueery claimed to have said it
