There was never any doubt that if Pope wants a third year, he gets a third year. He did a wonderful job in year one quickly forming a competitor and then coaching them through what may have been the toughest schedule in Cats history. Even with injuries that removed a star starter and the backup PG, he got us to the Sweet 16 with a PG who could only play out of sheer toughness. So, the short memory posters who downplay or deny that fact should be the ones who go away.

Since he is back, the redundantly negative posts hurt UK, not help. But, I think those narcissistic posters know that. They don’t love UK. They love their fandom. Or, another team.

We lost 8 games by double digits n season 1. The backup PG selfishly chose to nit return to help the team in March when he was needed (just like your boy JQ this season shut it down). It was a solid season by UK standards last year, made possible by the boosters huge NIL warchest.

No. I love UK enough to despise us losing our claim to be the “it” program. Instead, we are becoming a sh$$ program.

And I assume you are a troll or fan of another school. No one who loves the program could want this crap to continue.

Not buying it. You love UK soooo much you want to hurt UK to get your way. You are not a fan of UK. Thanks for making my point.

I get what you’re saying, though he has been a coach for over 15 years, last season was the first NCAA-T win of his career, he‘s never coached a first round draft pick and he has zero street cred in the basketball world, he’s essentially a nerd, an underperforming one at that. He has two things to offer, money and PT, problem is, so does everyone else. UNC fired HD and look at what he did, compared to Pope-a-Dope:
  • Overall Record: 125-54 (.698)
  • ACC Record: 68-30
  • NCAA Tournament Record: 8-4
  • Accolades: 2023-24 ACC Coach of the Year
  • Milestone: First coach in ACC history to win 20 or more games in each of his first five seasons

Good post, I agree with everything you said. Although I am not happy with the result of this last season. There is a lot that can be criticized as far as coaching and recruiting. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been a pretty big critic this year. With that said, I am a Kentucky basketball fan and will never root for them to fail. I’m going to be more positive coming into the off-season. Hopefully we can get our roster constructed in a way that we can be highly competitive next year. Pope is getting this third year, whether people like it or not. Hopefully he can prove us all wrong and turn this thing around. I’m rooting for him.

Yeah, you don’t have to predict success but he is staying. If he is successful, we win. That is what we like.

Message board posters hurt UK. What a laughable comment you absurd clown. What hurts UK is a coach who cannot recruit or coach. Year 1 was somewhat successful under the circumstances but also with one of the oldest teams in college basketball and maybe the oldest. As another poster eluded too we still lost way too many games we were not competitive in. Pope is in way over his head. Can mark this post right now, we will be a bubble team at best next year. That’s not my hope or wish and I’d love my healthy heap of crow but I have seen nothing of pope to make me think anything other than he is not suited for this job. Honestly it’s not even close.

Knew it was a long shot, but was hoping against hope that our Administration would do the right thing.

I have zero confidence things will go well next year, but I'll root hard for the team as always and hope for the best.

One thing I AM sure about. Criticism of the coach on fan message boards is never going away.

Yeah people can try to be optimistic all they want but if we don’t land Stokes and I have no idea about Pate but maybe him. Then tear the portal up with guaranteed stud players, next year is going to be rough. No amount of optimism will change the coming **** show if that’s the case.

Ya boy sucks, He’s lost almost 40 games in 2 seasons. 1-11 against Florida, UGA, and Alabama.

I think you are a troll. Any reasonable fan who loves UK is able to step back and see that Pope is up against a lot of things, including nasty negative fans like you. He cares a lot more about UK than the previous coach did.

Spare me the crap about how much he cares, he’s not a good coach and Kentucky is going to get left behind because of him and barnhart

Oh well he cares about UK so that makes everything okay. Some are still so full of hate for Cal that they will still blame him and give Pope a pass for anything.

You didn't read the article, did you?
What did I miss? First off, just because it’s an “official” news article doesn’t mean it gives the whole truth. As a matter of fact it’s likely to contain less truth. It forgot to mention that Barnhart knows he screwed up the most important game at the most important university in the entire state once again and decided to save face in his own eyes. And because of him being a coward and running away, “that’s why” we can’t fire this bum (Pope) who is clearly not up to our standards.

They can't afford to fire him this year.

You did a good job of putting lipstick on a pig. UK fans were thrilled to have Hubert at UNC because we knew he would win enough to keep his job but never have them at the top consistently despite the level of talent that he inherited.

A good example of lipstick is the Mileston of winning 20 or more games in his first year. Well, let's compare his record to Roy's: Roy won 19 his first year after inheriting a mess. After that, he won 33, 23, 31, and 36! Nobody on the planet thinks that Hubert's performance was better than that.

How about NCAA record? Hubert had a FF run and a S16 but also missed the tournament and lost in the first round twice. Roy lost twice in the first round, won the NC, had an E8 and a FF on top of that.

Exactly by the boosters NIL warchest. We need the boosters to pull all funding and Pope will no longer be the head coach it's really that simple!
