I actually think a player like this is what you have to do in today’s era. His dad was a great player. He is being recruited by Memphis and Ole Miss. Perhaps he could come in and play as a backup while he develops behind a guy from the portal. I don’t mean that as a slight at all. That was the plan for Acaden Lewis and he had a really good freshman year. This is an insurance policy at that position with a lot of potential
Seems like a talented kid. Acaden Lewis was a pretty good player similarly ranked to this kid.

I try not to judge kids too much on recruiting rankings. Hopefully he has good fundamentals and plays good defense.

Recruiting rankings are worthless anyway. Sasha Killeya Jones was a 5 star. Chuck Hayes wasn’t ranked. Quade Green was a 5 star. The guy recruited to sit behind him and “develop” is the reigning NBA MVP and a world champion.

The current best player was a high 4 star who one of the best talent evaluators in history sought out and developed into a lottery pick. Would you bet on that arc for a sub-100 ranked player with no elite measurable?

Alabamas recruiting class is top 10. Those 3 guys are all rated pretty high. 18th, 21st and 40th in the class.

Recruits beyond the top 50 or so make much less than we’d expect. A borderline top 100-125 prospect would be lucky to get a quarter of the 2M you brought up.
Also the difference in 300k or 600k for instance, probably matters much less to the kid that has a former NBA player father lol

Yes, you are correct, but the worry is that Pope will need to offer him something like $2M to get him away from another coach offering $300k. It's not an implausible scenario -- that's literally how this year's roster was assembled.

I think people for the most part are worried. For 15 years, we always had one of the top ranked classes in the country and now the program is striking out on all of the main kids they recruit.
You’re wrong about Chuck Hayes. He was an all American in high school. Was Mr Basketball in California and picked Uk over Kansas back then.
