I would encourage everyone who feels the same way to reach out to the BoT and President's Office. Be respectful, as Mr. Setzer was, but let your position be crystal clear.
If you are a nominal contributor to the athletic fund, I would encourage you to not write a letter. If you investment is not monetary, your letter would not mean a thing. If you give more than an occasional ticket here and there and a few clothing items, then maybe.

as I understand it, this was in Mitch’s contract. So, he will get paid unless there was some collusion or the clause is otherwise unenforceable.

He’s not upset with Pope though or at least that’s not what this article is about. He’s unhappy with Mitch’s new retirement gig. That I think is a big deal. One thing I think we can all agree on is the new AD hire is huge
The next year or so is going to be vital. Who the hire as AD and who that AD hires as Pope's replacement.

For those of us that don't follow "non-revenue sports", what happened with the swim team?
Female swimmers abused by the coach. Mind you Mitch not only swept this under the rug but kept his job and now this golden parachute retirement position.

He’s enabled a lot of the nonsense that’s gone on in athletics. From Mitch’s dumb hires, terrible contracts to Stoops, Cal and yes, Pope (extension for a S16 🤮), scandals, coverups, JMI 25 year deal, talking down to fans, alienating the average fan, game day atmospheres like the Opera House, no alcohol until recently, taking away the tailgating areas, etc. Enough is enough.
All of this warrants a million dollar a year puppet job? Whose the real “knucklehead”?

Barnhart will never be able to make a public appearance at Basketball or Football events because people will boo him.

not that I think he cares, this appears to be a money driven effort on his part.

If Mitch is done being the AD, then he needs to move on and relinquish full control to his successor. We don't need Mitch hanging around and screwing things up by playing the role of shadow AD. The guy has already been allowed to screw up too many things in his time here. Just cut him loose and let him go on his way. We need entirely new blood in charge of this athletic department.
And as has been said there’s a reason Mitch left when he did for his retirement. He wanted 2 more years and couldn’t get it. He blocked Pearl from the job and the boosters didn’t want his vision and it was rammed down their throats. Then he treats them like they don’t mean anything and now he needs their money 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I want you to explain this to me, if you don't mind, like I'm very very naive to the innerworkings; why has Mitch seemingly blocked or at least obstructed all the hires that appear to be "slam dunk" or people that would certainly be successful? (Cal, Pearl, etc). I'm legitimately asking. Is he doing it on behalf of some kind of moral/religious code? Is there a fear of success for basketball and football? And if so, why?

Just amazing to me that Pearl seemed to get little-to-no consideration for the job. Thanks in advance. I trust your opinions/insight otherwise I wouldn't inquire.

We shouldn’t let it disappear, in fact we should bring up the Swim team every chance we get. He should be held accountable for that!
Right? He concludes Pitino was the mastermind behind the hooker thing because it happened on his watch then somehow that logic magically doesn’t apply to the swim team scandal, which was much worse since it involved coercion and abuse.

i donated to club blue and buy plenty of that beer from time to time if that counts... lol and i'm pissed.

Stuff stinks, there is smoke ... and people are realizing it, people that matter.

How can the president say we need to make money cuts in one breath and in the other randomly give a retiring AD free $2 million that wasn't in his contract.

Initial takeaway: we live in an era where people actually pretend (I hope) to be offended by being called “knuckleheads.” BBN is full of people desperate to be offended. The therapy bills in this state must be outrageous.

Wait! You mean the boosters aren’t woke losers calling for a 3rd season of this dumpster dive?
I mean... Who are these "boosters" anyway and who do they want as coach then? If they are paying so much money, let's hear who they are and have them give their opinion on who the coach should be?

Like I'm literally asking: When people say "Boosters", who, exactly, are they referring to? Or are they just some imaginary ghost to blame stuff on?

In the updated contract that gave him this role at this pay.

Im going to guess he's the only "educator" being paid by the athletics department. This massive windfall being funded by athletics is another significant tell imo.
It’s not atypical for an athletic department to move a long term coach or AD into an advisors or emeritus role at the end of their career. There is a portion of BBN obsessed with Mitch, but nationally he has been a leader and highly regarded. Every AD in my lifetime has had a vocal portion of the fanbase that wanted him gone. Mitch has done a boatload for the department. If it’s in his contract and there was no collusion and it’s enforceable, he is going to get it. This idea that we would rather have him gone than have him paid for this role that some are expressing is just another childish response from some fans. People living off anger they don’t really even understand. There are deep holes in those people’s lives. They wanted a new AD. They got it. How long before the biotch about that AD? Probably not much.

I have a question. I’ve seen multiple people claim Pearl was going to take the job. Is that legit? I’m not saying it’s not. I’m genuinely curious
Of course I have no inside information but I do find it odd that a year after Pope was hired he retires. Makes you wonder if he knew the Cal era was coming to an end and waited it out to see if he got a call. Just speculation but also maybe a possibility.

If you think a poorly performing executive should get a massively lucrative going away present justified by a fake job, you are entitled to your opinion.
