This is why professional teams always locate in small towns instead of big cities. **

I could maybe buy this argument if he’s talking about UCLA or USC. You’re competing with the Dodgers & the Angels. But Austin? They don’t have a pro team (sorry minors don’t count).

According to the Google machine, the capacity for Texas' stadium is a little over 7,300. Maybe if they build it bigger, they would come.

Their average football attendance for 2025 was a little over 102k. I don't think it's crazy to think that an additional 7k of those people would come to a baseball game if the stadium had the capacity.

I guess this explains why we've consistently beaten them in football attendance year after year too

I believe his point is that there is less going on in Starkville which makes baseball more attractive. Lots of options in a metro area for people to choose from.
Of course there is more going on in Austin. But there's also over 500 people for every 1 in Starkville. Heck, there are 2 STUDENTS on campus at Texas than people in Starkville.

Must be nice to be so sure you're right about something that seems completely incorrect, that you don't even feel the need to defend it with any kind of fact based argument. Simply act like those that disagree aren't as knowledgeable as you and move on.

I'd be interested to hear how he judges who the biggest brands in college baseball are.

That is bull crap! His disdain for our program is showing!

I believe it was a regional when Univ of California was playing. We had one of our usual crowds there. I struck up a conversation with the fathers of two of the players. They were awe struck! Could not believe the crowd. To make a point I asked how they got to Starkville. One guy said he flew in to Memphis, rented a car drove in. The other said he flew in to Birmingham, rented a car and drove in. I asked did they pass any major populated towns driving to Starkville, both said No. That is what makes this crowd so impressive is that the nearest populated town is minimum 1.5hrs away. They said WOW!

He has a decent point in a vacuum in that people just choose other things when there are other things to do than watch college baseball. Kinda weird point to bring up though when your livelihood is covering college baseball, but whatever.

Reality though - give us some damn credit. You can't ignore those population disparities and chalk it up solely to small college towns being boring. The attendance to population ratio is very impressive regardless of alternative entertainment options. Seems like he's making extra effort not to have to admit that Mississippi State people really like baseball. We're allowed to be outliers in a positive context damnit.

In an attempt to downplay MSU baseball attendance, he says it is easier to have high attendance numbers in Starkville, population 26k, than Austin, TX, population 1,054,000.

who cares? We sound like Southern Miss fans with little man syndrome worrying about this type of stuff. Everyone knows we are god's gift to college baseball. We don't need Kendall to agree with us.

I’ve long suspected Kendall Rogers has no interest in seeing the game of college baseball grow in popularity.

More interest would bring more and better media attention… and would marginalize his platform and income.

Big fish, small pond… all that stuff..
Again, I just don't really know why we care so much about a tweet from KR. USM called, they want their small man syndrome back.

Comparing attendance figures at MSU vs. Texas is difficult because the setups are entirely different. One is a city centered around the college, the other is a massive metro area. The ability to get 13-14K at a game will always be greater at MSU, LSU, A&M, etc, than it would be TEX.

That's one of the dumbest takes I have seen from Kendall Rodgers. And it takes absolute idiocy to rise to that level.

I guess that's why we blow away the rest of the SEC in football attendance... oh wait..

That would make some sense. It's giving him a lot of credit for self awareness though and long term thinking. Most people would expect their money to grow with the game.

But it would explain why someone that is covering college baseball would basically take the position that it's such an inferior product that a bigger local population will necessarily result in fewer attendees, because obviously a college baseball game will be a net loser if other options are available, regardless if there are also 40 times the population to draw from.

Is it possible Kendal Rogers doesn't actually like college baseball and fell bassackwards into it?

State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and LSU are the only ones who care enough about baseball to have a high attendence. If bigger schools don't want to support baseball like we do, why are we trying to shame them into it? I frankly wish we would cool it with the attendence talk. It's a nice talking point, but it doesn't, in itself, mean anything about how good we are as a program!

No one here has acted like they “care so much” based on the posts in this thread. He said something about MSU sports and it’s a sports message board where we discuss such things. Now, if people begin to say we need to boycott until he makes a retraction or clarification, or that we should all reply to him on Twitter giving him hell, then some people for sure care too much.

Take that USM little man syndrome horseshit elsewhere. We are MSU baseball. No one has little man’s syndrome unless they are a dubmass. If anything, we have been too cocky about MSU baseball and didn’t back it up until we won a championship.

I'm gonna say huge crowds is a plus in recruiting. I could be wrong.

Because it’s a message board and we talk about sports. Supposed baseball people having stupid takes about our baseball team is a part of that.

Why in the world would we not talk about a national baseball writer having a brain dead take on our program?

BOC said himself - the crowd matters to players and coaches. Baseball games at the Dude are incredibly fun and easy to manage for the average fan. It's a great entertainment option if you live nearby.
or within a couple of hours.
We are the best college baseball fans on the planet - as a people. No doubt! The players definitely appreciate the love.
Now we just need to help them win two or three more titles in the next five years.
And stop all the bichin' and bashin.'

It’s a dumb take. Texas based guy looking for reasons the end all be all of everything athletic, academic, culture, and research, the university of Texas could be outdone by a nobody.

I’m glad the word retarded has come back. It applies here.
it hasn't, it's still a slur just like it always as been. asinine people just like to think it makes them look cool and edgy. pick a new word...like asinine
