We need to talk about how good Charlie Winfield is on the mic
Is it just me, or is Charlie Winfield the best color guy in college baseball right now? I was listening to the broadcast during the last home series at Dudy Noble Field, and the chemistry between him and Bart Gregory is just on another level.
What I love about Charlie’s style is that he actually knows when to let the game breathe. He isn't one of those analysts who feels the need to talk over every single pitch. He’ll give you a great nugget about a freshman’s development—like his recent comments on Maddox Miller looking "filthy"—and then he’ll just step back and let the crowd noise take over.
Plus, because of his background as an attorney and his massive role with The Bulldog Initiative (the MSU NIL collective), he brings a perspective on the modern game that most "old school" guys just don't have. He understands the business of college sports but still calls the game with the passion of a true fan.
I've seen people calling them the "Mel Allen of college baseball," and honestly, I'm starting to agree. Road games are a "hard listen" when we don't have our home crew on the call.
Anyone else feel like we’re spoiled having him?
I love you all,
GOJ
