Jan was terrific all year but really poor today. No confidence in bench. Tried the tough love approach which just made them tighter. No legs when they needed it as they played a different rotation than they did all year. I know guards no to make shots but coaches mannerisms hurt team today. If I'm on the bench I'm questioning alot if I cant play when starting guards are 2 -20.

Poor outside shooting. Maybe bench could have helped maybe not. Could have won in first OT but free throw shooting not there.
Should have won in regulation, but they didn't even attempt to get the ball to Heiden. How can you not go there? If it doesn't turn out, fine. At least you went to your best option. And make one more FT at the end of the first OT and it's a W. How this game was lost is amazing, frustrating, and sad. Ouch.

I thought Heiden looked gassed in that last OT. She wasn't working to get position like you'd normally seee.

No more season tickets to watch this. You have a bench but continue to play people who were horrible today. Didnt even try anyone else. Are Callie and Teagan that bad? Hell, maybe they could make 4 out of 20, but lets play the guards 95% of the game to go 2 0f 20 or whatever. Just terrible coaching decisions.

Don’t think she was terrific, most of the mistakes seen lately have been there all year. Late game failures, turnovers, etc.

I love all the backseat coaches and their jumping on coach J. Do you honestly think she forgot how to coach and im pretty sure as Lisa's head asst coach she was coaching as much if not more than Lisa was. We all have to get off the CC years and quit comparing teams, Lisa had the best player in the country bare none who legitimately won quite a few games on her own without any coaching at all. Jan steps in after not only losing CC but also a WNBA player in Martin and everyone thinks your just going to keep rolling. People always question the Head coaches decisions as they think they are the only ones calling the shots in a game, you do realize that each asst has a scout and if you watch timeouts its them at times doing the coaching, its a group effort but only the head coach gets the glory or the negativity. This team in my opinion over performed with as young as they were and also losing their best 3 point shooter and if Jan and her asst coaches can go out and find a couple guards who can not only shoot but i think more importantly create off the dribble they will be challenging again next year. I like her asst coaches I really like coach Barrett and this will be her first time really recruiting to Iowa and excited to see where she can find some athletic guards and wings.

It was the type of coaching that would have made Fran proud.

Lazy *** hire. Being a good assistant coach doesn't make you a head coach. The Oklahoma coach wanted the Iowa job...................................
I agree and many in agreement she would’ve been the better hire and is a better more proven HC. However in Goetz’s defense bluder and timing of her announcement of retiring kind of forced her hand. With roster and recruits to keep in place and all the good will built up by last 2 years. Kind of like with Bruce Pearl at Auburn and having his son take over.

The 4s and 5s missed 19 shots in the paint
Stuelke 1-6 FTs
Two of the guards were 3-20 and 2-17 from 3
Adding Chats' the guards were 11-42 and 5-26 from 3
8-16 FTs overall
Jan had the perfect play setup in regulation and Chat didn't throw the ball into Ava for some reason, who had position

So, any of you blaming Jan are simply full blaming her to make your pitiful selves feel better.

I know Women's basketball is a "love-fest", but the tough conversations need to happen. Ball in hand at regulation and end of 1st OT. Both coming out of time outs. No play called, no back-up play called. No one moved for the ball and obvious no play was called. Ineffective is the word that comes to mind for JJ. She just doesn't have what it takes to run a program with this kind of $$$. She seems like a nice person, but that does not make a good coach. I feel like we got what we deserved when this hire was made. Felt like a pay off for a loyal assistant.

Of course there was a play called. You are an idiot.

Last shot of regulation looked like Junior High basketball. Just a blob of people. Screens spacing give the players something to execute.

The arm chair coaching criticisms from posters who have not coached past 8U is almost embarrassing. To paraphrase a baseball quote. Sit down, shut up and thank the coach for a job well done considering what she had to work with and how they performed under pressure. Coach cannot shoot for them. Players need to perform, period.

100% agree

The signs were there all season...the NW game. The Indiana game. The Purdue game. Others.
A seeming lack of preparation to start games..Indiana/Purdue/FDU. Lack of halftime adjustments...NW/Baylor/Miami.
I may have certain games reversed, but the point stands. No planning/execution.

That said, Beth isn't firing Jensen now and whatever happens next season...probably not a year from now.
These results don't help recruiting. They probably don't help portal acquisitions unless someone sees an opportunity for the right amount of $$$.

The wheels came off in the UCLA game and things spiraled down from there.

The 2nd best team in a conference should never lose a game by 50+ points.
Never.

People defending this implosion are unbelievable.

I think you said it best in a previous post. We all have a right to our own opinion and should not be bashing others so we can prove we are smarter or tougher than the other guy. I’m certainly not trying to defend our UCLA disaster or our play in the last three games. My own opinion is I still believe in Jan and the Hawkeyes, however I’m not ready to get down in the mud and wrestle over all of the criticism posted. Just my opinion. I’ll be ready for some great entertainment next year, and a few downer nights probably too😳. Go Hawkeyes!

The offense changed completely with Jan and her force the ball inside mentality and that isn't going to work on it's own but that seems to be all she wants them to do......this is a guards game anymore in today's word and you aren't going to get them to come to Iowa when they watch the **** offense you run along with garbage inbounds plays and terrible sub management.....Jan just is lost as a head coach more often than not and it shows

But what you don't understand is most of these negative nellies or trolls think the coaches are the ones missing the shots and stepping to the line and missing FFs. Then they will say well that play to end regulation or OT was a bad call and maybe it was at the time but I guarantee all the other missed opportunities during the whole game were far more important to not having to come down to one single play. The bottom line your not playing this team the best of 5 series your playing them 1 time and in that one time if you have an off day like they did shotting the other team will be given a chance to win and they did.

In Jan's defense, When McCabe went down, they lost one of their better 3-point shooters so she naturally went to the next best thing going for the team. Many here hoped that Addie would be the person to step up for McCabe but being a freshman that didn't transpire.
What we seen yesterday was the result of the McCabe loss. Virginia did a great job of taking away the post pass game to Heiden resulting in only the outside shot which Iowa lost a lot off in the McCabe injury. Free throw misses greatly hurt us also.
Iowa needs to get help in the portal to get outside shooting. Incoming recruits could play a big factor along with the development of our younger players coming up. Jan is not going to be fired over this season. This team went farther than most expected and so with help with recruiting and the portal they could be very good next year and the future.

I get you and what I also understand is that with every loss comes the piling on of "Jan is over her head or something similar" bs that I suppose helps them feel better about themselves. It must really suck for so many that always look for someone to blame when they have no clue.

From my perspective, yes, this game did not go the way we all wanted it to go and should’ve gone. And I’m sure all of the players on the team did not want this to happen the way it did, but it did. Jan took a team that no one had predicted to do as well as it did and they over perform! This shows a lot or at least proves me that she has the ability to lead a team, but unfortunately, she just didn’t have all the pieces. Free throws is what costed us the game and hopefully that is a focus in the off-season. I think key would be for Jan to be able to hit the portal and get some of these high profile athletes and grab the pieces that we need to take us to the next level and back to a final four for championship game. Yes we are all upset, but we shouldn’t turn on the coach. Instead, and I’m not saying we’re not but instead we should support the coach and I hope the University of Iowa can give her the funds it takes and the necessary resources it takes to go out and get the missing pieces that this team needs. If Beth wants us to be a constant winning program, we need to be able to go out and get the players that a UConn, LSU, South Carolina, UCLA and all the other power houses can get. It’s hard not to be proud. It just sucks when your expectations don’t live up to the results, however I’m very proud of the team and I’m proud of the program. I will get off my rant. Good day.

If they finished 7-27, then you might have a point. But they finished 27-7 and a solid 2nd in a tough league with multiple strong wins over good teams.

Your assertions are completely nonsensical. What are you even talking about?

Low basketball IQ and poor free throw shooting did them in. This team will perform better without HS and KF next year. Solid as role players but hurt the team by trying to do more.
