Centre College has as good a chance of signing Stokes as we do with Pope as the coach. Would you let a 5 star+ son play for Pope? I did not think so.
Great point but I do think Pope could easily sign a five star recruit if they lost their legs in an accident but a foreign doctor said there was a ‘chance’ they could fit him with artificial legs and have him back to 100% by the start of next season. Of course Pope would have to shell out millions in guaranteed money but I think he could sign a kid like that.

This board is gonna be burned down when he makes it official he's playing for the jailhawks

Not me. For starters, any smart fan has already accepted that we arent getting recruits until something changes. Stokes and any others are not coming here.

Second, with Kansas firmly back to their choking ways, Stokes going there wouldnt bother me one bit. Hes no better than Petterson and Self seems to do better with experience. Not to mention hes practically gone from Kansas anyways.

Will be interesting to see what he does if Self retires.

Give Stokes $40M and balance the NIL budget by making every other player on the roster pay $2M for the privilege to play for the name on the front. That offer might bring Stokes to a 30% lean to endure a year of the Dope. May have to throw in the title to a private island to close the deal.

For $7,000,000 your fkn wrong 😜

But I guess you wouldn't 😂
You are correct, I would NOT. $7 million is chicken feed compared to what a 5 star+ that gets developed will earn in the NBA. Most NBA regulars earn $15 Million to $60 Million per year. Shortsighted person may grab the $7 million but anyone with good sense would view the difference in the $7 million Pope offers against $4 or $5 million from another school as fools gold. Until we get a top coach we are not getting many 5 star studs to come to Lexington.

I dont see Self leaving just yet. And I think if he can get Stokes, he will stay. And even if he does retire, I dont really feel a ton better about Stokes. It seems like there is an awful lot of dysfunction within the program right now.
I expect Stokes to pick the random team right at the end. Like Vanderbilt. Don't expect him at UK or KU. Watch him go to Arkansas or some ****.

Maybe a stupid question but he that good? I haven't seen much of him on tape.
He seems somewhat of a distraction to me but that's just a gut feeling.
Maybe he IS worth all the hype. It will piss me off if UK is just a hat on the table though.
Pope can't let other quality 2 G's split waiting on this dude.

I think we're going to get him.

I think Pope is smart enough to sense the pressure. And I think he lost a lot of guys last year because we weren't making the money work. Nike wants Stokes at Kentucky. I think between Pope's seat being warm and the Nike money, it's going to get figured out.

There's also a very real chance Bill Self retires. He didn't sound like someone that was coming back in his last press conference.

We might see the day these big time Stokes type players get 10+ million, let the billionaires build there team. Why not, if you got the money.

The $7 Million is a Pope offer. Several schools may offer $5 Million. The difference is $2 million less but get a coach that can develop the player for NBA. NBA starters make $15 M to $60 M per year. Yes the college dollars between Popes offer and other schools is totally chicken feed for a 5 star + kid that gets develops. The kids who are good college plays but don't have much of a chance of making it in the NBA might choose the bigger offer. Someone like Oweh who will never be a star in the NBA should take the biggest money offer like Pope offered him. The Boozer kid at DUKE could have shopped his talents and gotten a bigger payday for his one year of college but at DUKE he will be viewed as getting good development by NBA GMs. Next year Boozer will be worth north of $50 Million.
