Iowa won, and that's all that matters in March.

Coming close is what lower seeds often do, but they go home. Winners go on.

On the men's side, High Point beat Wisconsin and almost beat Arkansas yesterday. But almost doesn't work in March, so High Point is done and Arkansas moves on. Siena almost beat Kentucky. Vanderbilt almost beat Nebraska. But Siena and Vandy are done. Kentucky and Nebbie are moving on.

Despite the intelligent psychological approach Jan took after the UCLA embarrassment, I would suggest the Hawkeyes were still a bit shellshocked from that one, especially once FDU went on a run late in the first quarter and turned what was supposed to be a blowout into a nail-biter. Self-doubt can be tough to overcome, but the Hawkeyes came through when they absolutely had to. That's a great sign.

I think they'll catch their breath and have a great win over Virginia on their way to the Sweet Sixteen. Joe Maddon, the manager of the Cubs who led them to their first World Series title in 108 years back in 2016 often said, "Not every game can be a Picasso." Sometimes you win ugly, but it's way better than losing, especially in March.
