Fred needs to hit the portal after the season and get some rebounders and an elite point guard. Feels like we've overachieved, don't think Jacobson would play for any other sweet 16 team.
And wouldn’t be playing for Huskers if they had anyone, anyone else. He had a miserable night with turnovers, fouls and missed shots.

Rice was just named Mr basketball in Iowa

I think Rice will be a good player eventually, but if he plays more than 5 minutes/game next year, it's going to be a very rough season. Major college basketball is all about experience now. Most Big Ten rosters are going to be full of guys with 3-4 years of D-1 college basketball experience. You're not going to win many games with an inexperienced roster.

We are going to need to bring in at least 3 very good players from the portal to replace the experienced guys we are losing. After the season we had this year, we should be able to do that. However, Fred has to find the right guys who are willing to buy in to what he wants to do offensively and defensively. We can't go back to the "hero ball" we played his first few years here.

Two of the best point guards we faced this year were true freshmen.
Risky move when we have a ton of momentum and a ton of good publicity. Need to capitalize on our success. May not get this opportunity again.

What would be the downside to signing an experienced pg out of the portal? If a freshman can beat him out then we would have a backup with experience? Oh, no.

If Sandfort and Frager come back I think we are in position to be right back and ready to make a run.

I’m sure we’ll try to land an experienced point but we really need at least two in this year’s class.

Maybe he was nominated, but Mr. Basketball went to Jaidyn Coon of Storm Lake. Now former Creighton commit (he decomitted yesterday with McDermott retirement). I think Rice got Gatorade player of the year, though.

Jacobsen is a fine bench piece, and the Huskers have won a lot of games with him on the floor. It seems like you're forgetting that March 8th OT win vs Iowa pretty quickly. Jacobsen won that game, and I know (as do you) that Fred loves him. He's going to play big minutes next year. And yeah, he sucked against Vandy.

Coon is a nice player and I know Fred offered him before he committed to Creighton, but I can't imagine he would take another high school wing when he already has Lanier and Rice committed. He needs to find a couple of experienced guards to replace Sam and Lawrence. And a couple of experienced post players to replace Mast and Garcia.

Coon will probably end up at Iowa or Iowa State.

And Huskers will take a giant step backwards if he is playing “big” minutes next year.

It depends on what OP defines as “Big minutes “ ? 15-20? Over 20 ? I need clarification.
He's played in every game and averages 19 mins, 4 less than the 6th man of the year. He's a major rotation piece this year and will be next year as well. I'm guessing we bring in a PG that starts and Cale's situation remains similar, depends on who we get. Acting like his performance against Vandy is representative of his season is just ignorant. He's shooting over 50%, 38% from 3, his assist/turnover ratio is 2-1, has more steals than Lawrence, he's a decent rebounder, and he's 3rd on the team in blocks. He sucks at the FT line and needs to get that straightened out.

Makes a person wonder how Nebraska won as many games as they did this year without 8 guys in the rotation that average 20 PPG, 10 RBG, and 5 APG, especially since every other Sweet 16 team has those types of players.

No, actually Rice was named “2025-26 Gatorade Iowa Boys Basketball Player of the Year”. I watched him play several times this year and at the state tourney. He will be a decent college player, but like many high school seniors, he will need to get stronger in college. When his Waukee NW team got beat at state, the opponent held Rice in-check with strong defense and Rice settled for jump shots.

Actually, Jaidyn Coon from Storm Lake was named this year’s Iowa Mr. Basketball. He had originally committed to Creighton, but when head coach Greg McDermott retired, Jaidyn recently re-opened his recruitment. Hopefully, he flips to Iowa, as he would be perfect in Iowa’s system. 6’6” athletic, tough defender, and smooth shooter.
