UK basketball right now is a w h o r e, and it can't even be a good looking w h o r e, it's an ugly, decrepit ***** that has to mask its internal rot with layers on layers of makeup.
Can easily be turned around with proper hires and good leadership at the top, but whether the top brass is interested in such is the question. Right now, with wasting $1M a year on Mitch, not looking too positive on that front.

This could literally all be changed by next season if we get rid of Pope and hire a proven winner. No reason to delay the inevitable.
Easily. 100%. The executive level players don't seem to have an interest in doing this, for reasons they only know.
Barnhart won't admit the obvious that he made another bad hire/coaching contract decision so Pope comes back next year. Besides if Pope were fired now, Barnhart would hire his replacement and he was certain Pope was a home run despite no post season success in 9 years as a college HC before coming to Kentucky. This is the same Barnhart that also hired Billy Gillespie, didn't hire Cal until he was forced to, then 10 years into Cal's tenure voluntarily gave him the worst contract (for a school) in the history of college basketball. Pope spent $22 million on the roster and the only UK player projected to be selected in the entire NBA draft was the guy who played two games for us on whom we wasted $3 million. The team never gelled as a team and that's coaching. The team was never consistent and that's coaching. The defense was terrible (2-10 in games where we gave up more than 80 points in regulation) and that's coaching. Plus in year two he adopted the Mitch Barnhart tactic of making excuses ("oh it's the injuries", "At any other school it would be good to win NCAA tourney games in consecutive years" Yada, Yada. I think Pope is what he is and that's a likable, mediocre coach. I don't think we get consistently good until we hire a good coach. Hopefully the next AD can successfully do that at the end of next season.
I would like to believe that. When you say "we", who are you talking about? Our grifting, carpetbagging AD isn't interested and the President just rubberstamps the Grifter. I hope you know what you're talking about because I've had it with "wishful thinking". Faded Banners is all we are as the grifters continue to suck the University coffers dry.
... pretty sure I read that Mitch's contract also calls for a $650,000 bonus on top of the $950,000 salary for doing nothing. I just wonder if there is anyone in the Athletic Dept that ISN'T a grifter. They're all on the take. Only a knucklehead would ask questions, according to the grifter himself.
