I believe Pope will get this done. He did a great job last year given the circumstances and anyone reasonable was happy with it.

Flopped this year. No sugarcoating it.

He will learn and adjust. I expect a full turnaround next year.

I will always support who the Coach of my favorite team. I always want them to be successful. I wanted them to win yesterday. With that said there are expectations for this job and in this those that want him gone for 1 bad injury riddled season are ridiculous, but he needs results next year. Can't have a 3rd injury riddled season. Cannot lose on Friday of the SEC tournament 3 years in a row. Needs to produce a team that is top 3 or 4 seed worthy next year and push hard for elite 8 or better. He said the mission at UK is hanging banners and that is the expectation.

I love how they all say “I believe” nothing to back it up, just a warm fuzzy feeling in their heart that the man that doesn’t show any characteristic of being a good coach will just some how get it done because some random person believes in them. Last year was a fluke also, we were good early because we were old. Since mid season last year, we have been an embarrassment against power 5 opponents.

I think the biggest indictment on Pope’s coaching ability is the resume he brought with him to Kentucky. Seriously, if any other coach in the world had that resume, does he get a look here, or any other top tier destination? Honest answers only now. It’s obviously no. Not a chance in hell.

Again, I’ve said this numerous time, and I’ll say it again. I don’t blame Mark. I’m not happy with him, mostly because of his piss poor decisions, his lack of recruiting ability, and his weird *** media relations this season; but I don’t blame him and I’m not really mad at him. All he did was accept a job that has probably been a pipe dream for years. What’s he going to say?

Mitch is the one to blame. He screwed Mark and just created future hate for the dude simply because he was lazy, knew he was on the way out, and wanted an easy hire; and one that he knew would do whatever he asked for however long they were both here together.

I don’t have to read an article with quotes or proof that this was the case. It’s really obvious.

Even in a very disappointing season, we still beat Arkansas, St. John's, Indiana (means something to us old farts) and Tennessee twice. Second round exit sucked, but we got the iconic Oweh shot out of it.

Gillispie got fired because he was banging coeds and blowing off boosters. Pope is not Gillispie. He's a much better version of Mark Stoops.

Popes done. The president confirmed if pope is here it’s due to money issues. Boosters are going to save. Pope would be best to fall his sword but they probably told him it’s gonna be lean now. He’s like tubby he needs some elite players and can’t land them. He’s gonna lose his Kentucky boys who were burger boys in Moreno and Johnson. Pope has become toxic.

Great post. That’s how I feel about the whole situation. People need to be upset at Mitch more than Pope, imo.

I admire you stick by MP since you say you like him. I liked him too as a player. I had my reservations when he got hired because of his resume.

Honestly, I was hoping Cal will not leave , I believe was a mistake that he was forced to leave.

After Cal left I was hoping we will wait and hire Billy D because of his unique qualifications and business knowledge from college basketball , NBA, roster construction, budget management etc………

the other alternative was to ask one of the best in business, Pat Riley, for advice on GM / coaching hiring and business model that UK basketball should follow.

After MP hiring and presentation, I rallied behind him And wanted him to succeed. From the first year, I saw issues with game preparation and defense. I thought he could remedy that in second year but he was forced in a role of roster construction / recruiting/ transfer portal and budget management NIL that he was completely unprepared for. He throw good money after bad injured or mediocre players while failing to attract real talent. His saving grace was OO return and FL NIL negotiations issues with DA. Without any of those two we would not make the NCAA tournament or have a winning season.

second year, also revealed MP inability to adapt, develop players or get close to player and manage locker room dynamics. his overthinking and reliance on some made up analytics determined in some very weird rotation of player and very poor players conditioning.

MP also failed at protecting his players, especially his freshmen from media or social media negativity. Thats his job to protect, mentor and teach these young men.

MP is in his 5Os and this his biggest job of his career. It’s up to him if he can switch course and turn the boat around . I will cheer for him in his 3rd year to succeed but I have big doubts because the second year brought more questions than answers.

The pitchforks are out today. You guys shouldn't be so firm in your hatred, it may make you look really stupid in the long run.

Reminds me of the most immature among us who cry and scream at halftime only to see the game flip.

I may end up being wrong, but you crybabies have not been proven correct. Ending has not been written.

He'll have 30+ games to save his job. It's win or go home time for him.

We’ll know in just a couple of months. I still support him even if I don’t have loads of confidence. He’ll either put together a legit roster or he’ll be in hell all season with people done with him. Hard to see any in between.

The injured Duke player, an improbable comeback against Gonzaga, and two miraculous Oweh shots against OU affected the outlook on Popes first season.

That was a good team that was fun to watch and easy to cheer for. Butler’s injury kept them from winning another game or two in the tournament.
Pope had a successful first season and a terrible second one. He’s 1-1 with what should be a third and deciding season for the immediate future.

Exactly- what is Duke without the Boozers? No team can survive the loss of 3 starters.

We got JQ because he had a bad wheel, and no one else wanted to payout $$$ to take that chance- Who else that COULD make a splash at the 5 was left at that point? Swing for the fences- that's the way the ball bounces.
