The drawn of Kentucky being Kentucky has passed... With every game being broadcast somewhere, the draw that made us a step above e eryone else back in the 70,80s and 90s...is gone... Espn app.... Sec network... Every teams games are broadcast... So the benifets of a blueblood are going away quickly... Now it's about the coach, and nil...coachs contacts to NBA., training facilities. The number of championships, conference wins and stuff... Does not matter anymore.. Does your style of play match mine.. How much can you pay me. What is your contacts to the NBA. Saying you played for UK... Duke.... UNC.... is so far down the list, it's not even in the top 5...coach and money.... 1 and 2.

I’d have donated a kidney to have Boogie on this team rather than the quitter💯💯
I dont believe you. As many times as I've seen you use the show me you're a fool quote thing as a scolding burn....I highly doubt you'd give a kidney to any cause. Not your own anyway.

If we knew that Mitch was going to downgrade, I think we would have all kept Calipari. Let him finish out his career here. Watch him get guys like Jordan Smith Jr and Acuff. Just let him ride out to the sunset. Mitch did the program dirty when he downgraded.
A lot of his decline here had to do with him not getting Acuff / Smith type players. Heck, even a guy like Thomas, or JJ Andrews for next year, is a better wing than he got his entire time at UK.

He may have lost motivation in coaching, but I think he'd get to a S16 no doubt in the '24 season with a team featuring Fland, Wagner, Richmond, and Knox (heck, he did it with them at Ark). Then this year, he brings back those guys (maybe Fland goes NBA with the Cal bump) with Acuff and Thomas and it's an elite UK team and trending up.

And that's the EXACT reason I wasn't on the "fire Cal" wagon. I have zero faith in Mitch.

I agree with Boogie, but Cal is just as responsible for this state of Kentucky basketball as Pope is. He lost to Oakland with Reed Sheppard, Dilly and other NBA talent. He lost his fastball while on the UK sideline. He has somewhat found it again, but the PIGS more than likely are going to lose to Zona and 2 sweet 16 trips would not have the masses here very happy either.

The draw is still there we need someone who can sell it in this age. That’s the problem. Pope is just taking whoever he can get. He isn’t a great guy to send to the living room of an inner city kid one of these cal prides “saying”. Pope isn’t even getting to the living room. I mean look we are still on everyone’s list. They see pope and say nope. That’s the bottom line. When a player signs like cal says for the name on the back these guys once they are in Lexington is when the mystique of the program takes over. The key to UK basketball has always been a desirable coach for players with a winning history. And to get that coach it takes an ad who understands or has lived our tradition. That level is where the ad makes the sell. I mean, let’s say we brought in like a nate Oates. That dude‘s gonna feel like he’s the governor of the state that guy will feel it so much that all of that history will come flooding in and then that person not only are they chasing history in the sense of winning a title they’re chasing history amongst some of the greatest all-time coaches and a guy like nate oats understands this these guys go out in public and their football town. They don’t even they’re not even recognized. How are you? Gonna win a title win the people in the town you live in may or may not know who you are? I mean it’s been done at Florida, but it’s just based on pure coaching alone. What’s been done at Florida? Back to Alabama why would you stay at Alabama when the other option is going to Lexington and being revered? I’m just using notes as an example as far more coaches than just oats.. my point is the coaches know where the support where the history is the problem for UK has been Eli and Barney ones out. The other one needs to go. There needs to be a massive investigation into both of them, but we need an A.D. we know who can go and sell the job. Is that simple? I mean the way we knew Mike Pratt could sell the job. It’s the way we knew CM Newton would sell the job. We aren’t. It doesn’t take a athletic director as we saw with Mike Pratt we need a former player with some chops to get involved and bring in a coach. And honestly, I mean I go to Dan Issel and I say look Dan we really need help. We need your help. We would love it if you go and get your buddy Pat Riley, and you too run a committee to hire the next coach don’t tell me we don’t get the right coach with that approach.

Former players need to stay out of it. They got one of their own and it isn't working.

Cal isn't responsible for the CURRENT state. He was for how it was when he was here, but a great coach could have rebuilt very quickly when he left. Look at the NIL budget.

Pope hasn’t been a downgrade from Cal’s last four years——he’s been a steep upgrade.

That’s not an endorsement of Pope.

It’s the stark truth of how shamefully awful that infection of a head coach John Calipari was at the end of his tenure here, literally bilking us out of tens of millions of dollars in exchange for the honor of letting him insult us while he talked about his dogs and Little House on the Prairie while winning NO postseason basketball games.

Three NCAAT wins in two years is a huge upgrade from that.

What we should agree on is it wasn’t nearly enough of an upgrade. It definitely wasn’t.

But even if it had been a legitimate downgrade most of us would still have taken it to get out from under Cal by the end. Because it’s limited. And thanks to Uncle Mitch, Cal’s contract was virtually unlimited. Pope will be out after next season and as much as we love him for his playing days he’d have been out sooner if he hadn’t turned out to be an upgrade from Cal’s last four years.

I see your point but IMHO Pope is more of a discount than an upgrade. And he's clearly reached his ceiling.

I wonder why Boogie is throwing shade at Matt Jones? I'd be interested to hear him expand on that.
Was he throwing shade or just telling the truth?

He’s got a point. Jones never played or coached. He’s never proven himself to have any specialized basketball expertise. He’s basically just a big mouthed message board poster who got lucky and landed a radio audience. So why should we think he knows any more about the sport than the rest of us?
