Breaking down all of the changes to David Braun's 2026 coaching staff

Head coach David Braun has built out a 23-assistant coaching staff at Northwestern this offseason in the wake of NCAA rule changes.

We are entering the third season since the NCAA dropped the 10 "countable" coaches rule, and the FBS Oversight Committee just approved a waiver to allow 16 coaches off campus to recruit, though only 10 can be off campus at a time. This has set the stage for Northwestern to hire their largest official football staff in program history with 23 coaches publicly listed assisting David Braun in one way or another.

It's sort of funny that coaching staffs are expanding at a moment in time where all the pressure should be going the opposite direction, given what NIL money can do for a roster directly. Schools should want more of their money invested in on field talent than in future buyout commitments...

I was struck by the quality of experience these new coaches bring. Not a bunch of FCS blokes, especially on the offensive side of the ball.....

Iowa's recruiting at the QB position has been elevated quite a bit; that can't be solely related to NIL.

So much change, expansion, and turnover...and all I'm doing is reading about it. The head coaching job was already very expansive and extended well beyond the field itself; I hope adding so many actual coaches truly benefits Braun rather than stretches him (and any head coach) even thinner
