FL coach late timeouts; coach Ben better decisions

Who thinks the two late timeouts by Golden were bad decisions under the circumstances. The first came after a big Fl dunk gave them iirc a 4 at lead, screaming fans and momentum. A timeout was called and I could not believe Fl called it. Terrible coaching as it gave iowa time to settle down and coach Ben time to focus them and dial up a play.

Then right before our game winner iirc didn't Goolden do it again a d Fl last defensive alignment was very poor. I'll take it

Your thoughts?

Not sure about his timeouts usage, but to press Iowa (you know, like they were not already up by 2) was a colossal F up! LAMO.
Also, his last play call was clueless…reminded me of something Fran would have drawn up…

I thought the Iowa defender (Combs, I think) did a good job forcing the Florida player deep toward the baseline, cutting off the optimal angle for a layup. Looks like we had two defenders out there, which also helped. Poor attack by Florida on the play, but also strong defense by Iowa.

Near the very end, it seemed like we had tripled teamed him and he had no plan…lol. I do seem to recall a couple of their players were standing outside the arc (somewhat unguarded), but I am guessing that was on purpose. Lee had at least two earlier academy award worthy performances flopping on the floor after three point shots, so I am surprised he did not resort to something similar when he got caught in no mans land…😉

A key piece that I'm glad didn't end up mattering was the clock...unless it was just the TV feed that clock on FL's last play started at least a second late. Dude turned and dribbled at least once before it moved -- yikes.

I swear I also read Golden's strategy was to foul Iowa on their last possession...interesting. Yet we had missed a few there in the last 5:00. Great pass by Coop to Stirtz who was already moving downhill and the rest they say is HISTORY! :)

I haven’t watched much Florida this season, but for a coach who has received so much praise, Golden fumbled that game in the last 10 seconds.

In the PC he stated he wanted to put Iowa at the line, up 2, thinking at worst they are tied up with a chance to win or go to OT. As dumb as that is, it’s better than the awful full court pressure, having your man go under the screen, allowing Stirtz an head of steam up an open court.

That was something your HS Freehman B team coach wouldn't call.

Yeah the last inbounds by Iowa the gators made a cardinal sin of not being between your man and the basket. They guy guarding Stirtz got behind bennett not thinking he would turn up court. Great in bounds call and if they double team stirtz and stop that pass then we have Coop iirc almost at half court ready to receive the inbounds and have 8 seconds with a 3 on 2 against the remaining gators.

We had two very good options on that inbounds play

Why would you foul with the lead, that is bogus crap from that coach

There's certainly a school of thought that you foul when you're up 3 in order to prevent an OT situation from a buzzer beating 3. But I've never in my life heard a coach say their strategy was to foul a guy up 2. That's going full retard.
