A few arbitrary things that pissed me off the most at this year's NCAA

1st; why the hell is it OKST and ORST and not OHST. This is ridiculous as we all know which team is the real OSU of wrestling: 34 vs 1 National Championships. In this case, Flo does not know wrestling.

2nd: Why is there a rule that if a wrestlers toe or pinkie goes of the edge of the physical mat (the square portion) wrestling is stopped. I can understand that if they are on their feet it could be dangerous but if they are lying on the mat couldn't we say that one of the wrestler's head would have to be in jeopardy, at least his torso. If a wrestler is thrown and only his feet, say up to his knees, lands off the mat how is calling that OB prevent an injury; it already happened. I believe Casey was robbed of points because of this stupidity. This arbitrary rule needs to be modified so it actually protect wrestlers.

3rd: Why do the idiots at ESPN think we need close-ups during live wrestling? It seems to me there were three "field of views" during the finals; wide, medium and Close Up. Any view other than wide during actual wrestling just makes it hard to see what was happening. There were several times when I didn't what was happening. Save the close-ups of blood and sweat for after the action.

4th: There are visual counts by the Ref for "Top Man on the Leg", "Back Exposure from Neutral" and for "Back Points" so why can't there be a visual count for when the bottom wrestler gets to his feet? There was in the 70's and I don't know when they stopped. Not having a visual count by the Ref makes this rule arbitrary: how do we know when he started the count.

5th: The "Top Man on the Leg" count to staling also seems arbitrary to me. If they're on the mat the could stops but if the bottom man gets to his feet the count stops even if the top man still has the same leg. I don't really know if this is a problem, it just seems wrong.

I’m sure that all the OSU fans on this board are highly educated and know the meaning of Arbitrary but I also know other fans do come here and as OU fans don’t know the meaning of any word longer than “beer”, for Iowa fans it’s nothing more completed than “Stalling” and the word Arbitrary confuses PSU fans when it comes to the terms Acquittal/Convicted.

So JFYI: Arbitrary: Based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason, system or rule.

Piggybacking on #2 from above...The biggest thing that stood out to me, why so little room outside the circle? Especially at the scorers table.

Is it this way at every NCAA Championship? I don't remember that from last year.

I get that they are cramming a LOT of mats in there to get through all the matches...but PLENTY of dang room, make the mats a few feet bigger...should have at least the length of a body outside the circle all the way around, IMO. Wyatt even mentioned the lack of space outside the circle when he was on the broadcast, and one of the commentators mentioned it briefly Saturday.

And when they went to fewer mats, the space didn't increase...and effectively decreased for the finals, since there were not two mats side by side, to give extra space on the side...on the broadcast, and one of the commentators called this out Saturday night.

Granted, I've watched more wrestling the last 13 months than the previous 20 years, and prior to last year, don't think I've seen any NCAA championship matches outside a few finals...and have only been to duals in person. So bowing down to people who've been to or seen multiple NCAA championships and have much more knowledge.

Cleveland might be a location that needs to be rethought in the future.

1. Just off the top of my head. There were 4 big screens. They never had a team race visual after the 1st session. So, if you didn’t know how to find it on flow, which seemed to update slowly, you were in the dark. Those screens went unused, at least when I was paying attention.

2. Beers, 15-20 per and they shut down the drink stands with 30-45 minutes in the session.

3. It was uncomfortable at first not having men’s restrooms.

4. construction downtown, during this event was a poor look.

5. Matside reporting needs modification. Let these guys enjoy the moment with the people that helped them get there. Maybe there’s no way to change it?

They had Men's and Women's restrooms as well as the "Gender Non-Specific" restrooms. Maybe you just decided to live dangerously! :ROFLMAO:
