Not as easy as one might think. Iowa State fans are solid (evidenced by the game today) and he is becoming a legend there. Plus, his wife played at Iowa State and he has spent many years in that program ('06-'10 Assistant / '10-'13 Associate HC / '15-'16 Assistant / '21 - Present as Head Coach). Might be hard to break those Ames bonds!

That said, he is #1 on my wish list.

We would for sure probably pay more, if that’s important. Fred Hoiberg would be awesome also, NBA experience and connections but not sure he would leave Nebraska

Hoiberg took a few years to get Nebraska rolling. I think he’s a solid coach but he’s at a program where he could build it the way he did. He couldn’t do that here he would have already been fired.

Dude at iowa or iowa state been around the state for years. It would be hard to get guys like that. We would have ended up with shaka smart if not pope. I mean I get why people are mad. I was defensive of the team and coach after but his substitution patterns, and how he is with boosters and getting a gm and after a loss I dunno. Hopefully he can turn it around. Build a team like one of these big ten teams, shooters with bigs who are mobile

Guys like Hoiberg, Otz or McCollum aren't going to give you an instant turnaround like Cal did in '10.
Coaches know UK fans have no patience and want to be going toe to toe with Duke for the best of the best.
All three of the aforementioned coaches are at schools where football is really first and their fanbases are content on letting them build the way they want.and that way is not chasing the Tyran Stokes of the basketball world.

Exactly and it’s why I don’t want those guys even being contacted until Hurley, Oats, Golden and maybe even May have turned this down atleast twice. Those first two listed would turn us around in year one. Golden possible could. I don’t know that May could but it’s possible.

Problem is we are a decade from the last final four and nearly 15 years from a title. Patience is running at an alltime low for alot of BBN. Atleast with Hurley, Oats or Golden I think we’d have more patience if year one didn’t go good just because they’ve proven they can win and are legit. Bringing in a guy from ISU, Nebraska or Iowa would be a total crapshoot. They could just as easily be swallowed up by this job like Pope as they could win.

I think he would be an interesting hire, he's a good coach and knows what he's doing. Could he handle the pressure at UK? Could he recruit? I think he's 2nd tier guy, not a first tier guy.

On paper, UK should be Iowa State, but well you saw how that went.

Hurley,Oats, and Golden are definitely the top of the food chain for any Blueblood opening.
To me Sean Miller fits the mold of a UK coach.
He wants to run a program the way UK programs have been ran in the past.
I think he wants to recruit and coach the best of the best and I think he has the personality to not run from the spotlight.
It's a shame he didn't even get a call after Drew declined.

Otz is NOT leaving Iowa State.
McCollum is NOT leaving Iowa.
Hoiberg is NOT leaving Nebraska.
Odom is NOT leaving UVA.
And let's not even get started about Golden, Hurley, May, and Oats lol.
  • Each is exactly where they want to be,
  • Already is at a place with no limitations of how big they can win,
  • Has a fan base that unconditionally (currently) loves and appreciates them,
  • Get paid a ton of money (even if they aren't maximizing their paychecks)
  • Has extraordinary control over their respective programs
  • Generally take joy in outperforming the supposed 'bluebloods' like UK, UNC, Kansas, and IU
  • Want to take on the mantle of turning their current program into a perennial national power
The object is to find the next great coach; not to try to poach a guy that is already hyper-successful. Schertz will leave St. Louis (I think - though that's a pretty good destination if they can get a conference change); someone like him is about as optimum as it gets. But he's not the only one; there is plenty of extraordinary coaching talent waiting to be identified every year..

I honestly believe our opponents would shoot 50 FT's a game with the whistle we get. It seems like every time our defense has looked any good the last few years we get decimated by foul trouble in short order.
Maybe thats why ee should hire him. It might be the only way we ever start getting a fair whistle. ALL of his teams have always played that way, and maybe we need to foul out 5-6 kids a game for a few games to bring it to light and maybe start getting a fair shake. I haye losing but would gladly sacrifice a few games to that end
