I completely agree with you. I could live very comfortably with the money UK has already paid him. Unfortunately, not many people think like us.
My question is, does it matter? As I’ve sit here tonight pondering what went wrong, I’m watching Florida play. If Pope had this roster, would they be this good? I think the answer is no.
Look at Iowa, Nebraska, Purdue and Iowa State. I guarantee those programs aren’t spending crazy NIL money. You can spend $7,000,000 or $22,000,000, but at the end of the day coaching matters. We don’t have it no matter how much money is spent.

Uggghh man that is a lot. I hear you and agree with all that. I just think at least 90-95% of the fanbase, maybe more, has checked out and an even bigger percentage of boosters. I don’t know what the answer is as I have no idea what our finances are but I stand by what I said in that I still don’t see how they can bring him back.
He’s already rich, man. He’s set for freaking life and will likely coach at some mid-major for over a $1 million a year after the Kentucky job. If he wanted to show his love for Kentucky basketball, he’ll move on without a fuss.

This is what is forcing Hubert Davis out. The boosters aren't going to keep giving him money. They'd rather spend the money buying a better coach.
You see the hypocrisy in this statement. The guy responsible for the mess (Mitch) gets money for creating it. Only in America and only in college athletics. Mitch Barnhart is a clown.
Barnhart shouldn't be allowed on Kentucky campus or the state for that matter.
I think we can all agree it doesn’t take as much as we supposedly spent to be good. We just need to get better chemistry next year with players who aren’t injured and who are engaged.
I know where 5.5 million sits, we could hire a grad assistant like CJ Frederick and he could coach them just as well to spend the money on actual good players.
I wish our boosters were this loud and clear.
Davis has a Final 4, NC game under his belt. Pope doesn't even have an Elite 8. I realize Davis inherited a Roy Williams team. And he got 5 years.
But the reality is--UNC will wasted 4 years because of a "family hire." And now they're cutting the cord. Self may also retire.
Kentucky has wasted this year. You could argue we've wasted 2 years based on where we stand today. We'll be cutting the cord next year. But if UNC and Kansas both take elite coaches from P5 programs, we've given them a head start by digging our heels in to "stand by our guy."
If I spent a bunch of NIL money on JQ, id be very wary to do so again. Add stuff like that to the coaching issue and it may get bad quickly.
Guys, I promise you if Mark Pope was a coach in a pee wee league that only played 10 games in a season he probably would win six games. Check his resume!! The guy can’t coach!!!!

As a fan, you should want the coach to have as much money as possible. I wouldn't complain if UK spent 50 million (also, we don't even know how much UK actually spent because it's not public).
The money comes from rich boosters and wealthy corporations for advertising. Why do you care how much money they spent? I, personally, want them to spend all their money on UK basketball. I want to see the best team possible and win a championship.
Think even past Pope. If we get a new coach, do you think they would want the fan base complaining that they spent too much money? Again, who cares, let's get the studs. Pay them whatever it takes.
I've only been on the forums a year or two, but been a fan for 25 years. The forums have shown me that this fan base truly is toxic. We were lucky to get Cal to come here. The longer time goes on, the more toxic the fan base becomes, it seems.
I wish people with Twitter accounts would give Oweh and DA their props and not talk trash. They were not the problem.
I will say, that IMHO, JQ should have to give most of his NIL money back. IMO he was able to play. However, I said I wouldn't talk about this anymore because it no longer matters so I will stop there. So I won't bother to explain my logic/argument again.
He'd still recruit 3 injured players @ 4 mil each.
The best thing we could do is recruit an entire D2 championship team.
