It was a GRAVE error not hiring Pitino back in the first place. It's too hard now, but Pitino would've come back 2 seasons ago. That decision will haunt us for a while I'm afraid.

He used Pope to get back in the good graces. I think it’s a horrible idea, but anyone that would suggest he wouldn’t come back out of some loyalty to Pope just has ZERO clue how much of a stone cold killer Rick Pitino is. He’d sell his soul, and probably has, for wins on a huge stage. That dude is the definition of a narcissist. They have no loyalties.

If you think what I said is somehow an insult to you, that’s a you issue. I’m not passionate about it at all. I’m just a 50 yr old coach who once considered Rick Pitino my idol. All that means is I can assuredly say Rick Pintino gives less than two effs about anyone other than Rick Pitino. And I, in no way, think that’s a bad thing. It’s just who the man is.

Lol, both Pitino and Cal are in the Sweet 16. (I was on the "keep Cal team" so it's frustrating.)
The only upside for Pope right now is that Golden also got knocked out in the Round of 32 to a nine seed - to also an Iowa team. (BTW, isn't it crazy that the state of Iowa has two teams in the Sweet 16?) However, we also lost to Florida 3 times, so we probably also would have lost to 9 seed Iowa.
