He sure doesnt have much for next year. If he doesnt go buck wild in the recruiting trail over the next month, there is no way Kentucky makes the tournament next year. And when that happens, then he WILL be fired and the fan base will loathe him (I actually think his "legacy" as a player is just about erased at this point, with how bad of a coach hes been)..

So is that a better path for him? To get fired a year later and run out of town, potentially hurting your future coaching prospects? I guess for $6mil or whatever, it may be.

But thats why we should look at a buy out and go get a new AD and a new coach in tandem.

It would be the only excuse for his demeanor while we are getting crushed.
I'm a competetive guy, I hate losing. There is no way I could stand there and clap, I'd be tearing into someone.
sometimes you have to drag your team along, standing there clapping, while our guys make error after error, is disgusting to me.

If he comes out tomorrow and resigns, it would all make sense.

you very succinctly stated it, lol. Dude’s mealy mouth routine on his show and during interviews is him all the time. Acts like he’s the smartest guy in the room. Not super personable.
LMAO. That kinda stinks to be honest. Was hoping he was just a straight up good dude. I guess he's not a bad guy just a little off-putting. Oh well hopefully this season humbled him to a point where he learns from all this and corrects course next season. That's at least what I'll say to cope

I think Pope will step down. Recruiting is going nowhere and he knows it. He knows next year will be even worse. I don’t think he wants to age another ten years next season.
LOL! yeah, that's going to happen. Would YOU walk away from 5 million a year knowing now that the whole college basketball world knows you can't coach at all? He would.nt get hired at Bryan Station

Don't think it is likely, but the chances aren't zero, IMO.

If I were AD, I would start negotiating a mutual separation buyout during the flight back to Lexington.
If you were the AD you’d be Mitch Barnhart. So you’d be putting a more attractive package together in order to entice Scott Drew with Shaka Smart as your fall back plan .lol

He had zero recruits in April and made a sweet sixteen his first year.

He’s not going anywhere. We have a moron for an AD, his money grubbing buddies below him, a stupid president who doesn’t care one bit about athletics, and Pope actually thinks he can do a good job. He will never quit on his own, he’s making the most of his last big coaching opportunity.

just in case you dont follow college bball that much, really good players dont tend to jump on board a sinking ship where a coach is thought to be on the hot seat. That off season there was a buzz and things were thought to be on a new upswing and now things are on a down swing with Pope having a bad reputation with agents and the recruiting world .

Things are only going to get worse

OP, you need to put down the bong. Pope isn't going anywhere and Barnhart ain't firing him on the way out the door.

First, he won't step down because he wants the $$$.
Second, most coaches have an ego and he believes he can win.
Three, I don't believe he is a quitter (even if I think he should).
Fourth, he won't step down because he wants the $$$.

I actually think it's more likely he steps down instead of being fired

That being said I think both scenarios are like less than 1% of happening lol

This kind of describes what Marquis Teague and Doron Lamb have said about him .

Teague isn’t too high on Pope as a person based on meeting him when the TBT thing was going on .
