This had to be the absolute, most rigorous season they have ever had. The amount of negativity reached a major crescendo very early and didn’t really settle, even after a very solid B1G.

Based on the stats provided by the PSU stat guy, they essentially had a performance that had a less than 1% chance of occurring. Think about that for a second. Now, I absolutely hate stats based on what other people did in other years, but it DOES show that they basically achieved something that statistically would happen maybe ONCE every 100 years!!!

You can fight about all the other issues you may have with the program, but this was the best NCAA Tournament coaching performance I can remember watching. Truly special!!

And they tuned out all the BS and kept grinding. The team also responded and showed people we love our staff. Tom and the staff can coach regardless of what all the mouth breathers say.

Yup. If you like finishing fourth and not developing high school recruits into national champions, this staff is for you. David Taylor had two true freshman NCAA champs in year 2. The last high school kid not named Spencer Lee Iowa has put on top of the podium was recruited in 2013.

Despite a “good tournament” there are real problems in Iowa City. If Brands makes significant changes to the staff (including non-Iowa blood) I will wonder if it isn’t too late, but will applaud the effort, regardless.

100% Agree. It was the *true* story of the tournament. Clearly. Extend TnT now. Not tomorrow, NOW.

This staff has pressure on them, and that’s when most of the time stuff gets done.
They aren't deaf, dumb and blind. I can assure you those empty seats posing as Iowa fans gets in their brainpans real quick at all those duals this year.

You can't have multiple duals where at least half of your starting lineup doesn't record 1 single takedown. That is off the charts bad, which gets everything else rolling downhill. Can't have it. Period.

I’ll say this, this team and staff exceeded my expectations this tournament. Was a pretty up and down dual season, I didn’t expect them to finish 4th in the team race, and thought 6th was where we would finish. Based on a few things Tom said in his post tourney interview I feel he realizes that some things need to change if we want to compete for team titles again. Was really happy for Ryder block and Gabe Arnold, both guys have battled a lot of things early in their careers and overcame that to make the podium. Also Angelo was dinged up and had a good performance overall, needs to get healthy in offseason and get geared up for next year. Overall we are a ways behind PSU and Ok state but still excited to see what the future holds for this program. This tournament was a step in the right direction, now hopefully they build on that moving forward, Go Hawks!

I have always considered their temperament and behavior to be poor representations of the state, and still do. I believe they have been poor recruiters, and one weekend does not change that. I’ve felt they’ve not helped the few blue chips wrestlers they’ve had attain maximum success, and that hasn’t changed. their wrestler have always looked tired, uninspired, and banged up as the season progresses, and that hasn’t changed.

No, the only people who were proven wrong this tournament are those who said we couldn’t do better than TnT, while David Taylor was still rattling around. I have wanted TnT gone for years, and one rare moment where the Hawks did not under achieve at Nationals does not change that.

Anybody who truly hates Iowa wants them right where they are. Zero percent chance Iowa wins another team title with Brands at the helm.

I trust Beth to make the right decision. She has earned that with the McCaffrey/McCollum move.
Kinda blows the **** out of the can't win with a new Coach narrative doesn't it? From Northwest Missouri State and Drake no less. 😂

Drake and the only remaining Iowa player Cooper Koch just took down the defending national champion Gators in Florida. Wow.

The Brands are excellent coaches and honestly they are probably the 3rd best currently. Cael, DT, Brands. Nothing to sneeze at. They deserved Coach of the Year more than that bum Tom Ryan.

Accomplishing a result which was a 1 out of 100 improbability is truly impressive.

That such an accomplishment was required to earn a 4th place finish is an embarrassment.

It only serves to dramatically illustrate how much ground the program has lost against the competition.

I'll be honest, I really appreciate them as well. I'm thinking five-year extension.
