this is a great line of questioning......can anyone explain WHY the refs and media love duke but hate others when playing againt duke?
You yokels just do not understand. Duke is an elite upper crust east coast "transcendent" team. They are so talented, and Scheyer is so gifted that they have simply transcended fouling.
The second half of this game was officiated as one sided as you are ever goong to see. The refs completely onesided as you'll ever see
The stats say they are the best defensive team in the country, and they cause a lot of turnovers, yet miraculously, they just do not foul.
Typical of a Duke game, they always get touch fouls etc called against the other team.
I was watching and just thought it sure looks like Duke is the pick to win this year. Like the last UNC title it was unreal the calls they had that year. We got roofereed in that game!!
It’s definitely rocket science for you since you can’t figure out how ridiculous that stat is. You can’t say every team you play doesn’t drive the ball to the tune of 300 more FT attempts over the course of 40 games. That’s 8-9 points you have to be better right off the top to beat Duke, then add home court bias and you are down 15 off top. They get a whistle every single place they play and have for decades.

There’s no data showing Duke gets more favorable officiating than other top programs. Good teams draw more fouls and home teams get slight bias. That’s true everywhere. You’re just remembering calls you didn’t like.
If Duke was getting carried by refs, it would show up in multi-year data or Vegas lines. It doesn’t. This is just fan bias.
Yes, Duke has elite talent that tend to drive a lot more. They get fouled more than we do by a lot because they have a lot more players capable of driving the ball. We have Otega who drives.
Just watch the damn games. You dont need nerd numbers to see the treatment Boozer especially gets in most games. You dont need to drive the ball to rack up fouls. Tons of ball screens, holdings, tripping ect can or cant be called.

I thought you some of you guys claimed Duke gets an unfair whistle and huge advantage. As of yesterday, we had attempted 21 more free throws on the season than Duke in the same number of games.

I have found that most people who come from states that generally aren't good in basketball root for Duke or UNC (Jordan did a lot for them) basically because they are the most talked about and fawned over by the sports media. Met a guy this past week from North Dakota who said he doesn't follow college ball much, but he likes Duke. I was also at a Ford dealership in Norman Oklahoma Tuesday buying a new truck and the salesman saw my UK shirt and was talking about his team being, you guessed it, Duke. Knew quite a few from my military days who were not from there but rooted for them.
Sickening really.

If you mean they play great defense by grabbing, pushing, hooking, slapping, holding, hacking and shoving, then I agree.
Don't even need statistics, just use your eyes. Don't think I have ever seen a player get away with as much as Brown does for Duke on the defensive end.
Watch them play their "aggressive" defense.
Don't see anyone else getting away with that type of play. The only team that came close was last year's Houston team and you see how they punked Duke into choking.
Does Kentucky have a bigger or similiar discrepancy of FTs attempted and FTs give up when compared to Duke?
