I don't know much about NIL, but these deals seem to be completely one sided in favor of the players. Are there any binding expectations on the players at all? I just get the feeling that if a player wants to sit out, that he can just decide to do it, for any reason whatsoever. I understand that it's not technically the schools paying the players, maybe that's the issue. But the school definitely assists (along with JMI) with them getting deals. I'd feel a lot better as a fan if I knew there were contractual obligations to play if it's at all possible and doctors have cleared them.
Not sure but they really aren’t getting paid to play per se. I don’t know but I wonder if they were being paid to play if they would be considered employees and that could be a whole new can of worms.

I think Pope will bring in a new doctor and re-recruit JQ. And that doctor will explain there is no swelling and he’ll play and Pope will win his first title.

What made you think Pope is gonna win his first title here? lol

JQ being a big contributor was a bit of a long shot coming off major knee surgery.

Pope has zero NBA guys in a 12 year history. He’s a horrible recruiter. JQ was an NBA OAD type talent that most backed off of allowing Mark to have a great chance. This was done, as I’ve said repeatedly, for recruiting momentum and a prayer. It’s why using him as “our best player injured” is some really low rent stuff. I mean it’s just stupid. JQ was never a factor here and wasn’t even recruited solely to be one. Mark needs momentum and he needs headlines to show he can recruit this type of player. It wasn’t really just about the court. He was recruited HURT. Had he not been hurt and was going to play, as we see, he ended up at another program.

We have created a pattern for players who want to sit out. This will continue. Notice these players don’t end up at Duke. Their players know they have to play.
If Pope’s rationale in recruiting Quaintance really was just to have an OAD type player who ends up being drafted, then I agree that was a bad decision. You need good players and a few really good CBB players to win a title. If some of those end up playing in the NBA that’s fine, but relying on OAD freshmen is not a smart play even when healthy.

And of course I’m not privy, but it makes a lot of sense. He needs some recruiting momentum, and then the chance JQ plays down the road? Pope did what he felt he had to. I just don’t think that’s the kind of coaching and scenario a Kentucky type program should be forced into.

Pope Signed a Guy for a lot of money, knowing he can't play. He played well against St. Johns.

JQ's dad said that Pope didn't like JQ playing "that way." JQ was bad next game because Pope wanted to play him different."

Then "swelling in the knee."

I wonder if he's sitting out because Pope doesn't allow JQ to play the way he can. I wonder if his camp said eff it, he's not playing.

If Pope does sign Stokes and Stokes pulls the same shiz.. BBN is gonna flip cars.
If true this is one of the biggest faceplants I’ve ever heard of.

It's too long ago to matter but either way like so many others he just wasn't good enough and was in it for the bag

If it's ho long ago to matter, why did you bring it up
Big difference between the old days and getting paid for your Name,Image and Likeness. BIG difference.

As far as we know, but it's always been a crooked world, as long as I can remember. And I'm sure some weren't playing for peanuts for that time. And I'm not saying it was millions like it is now, but coach's didn't make millions then either.

He should have signed with North Carolina. At least he'd have his PhD to fall back on...

As for Pope throwing him off the team; I know that would satisfy some keyboard warriors. But if you've ever played on a team, you understand the dynamic, and how foolish that would be for morale. He's probably got close friends on the team. And whether they believe he's really hurt or not, they don't want to see one of their "brothers" treated with what they'd view as a lack of respect. It's not hurting any thing to let the charade that he's part of the team play out.

It wouldn't be very smart for recruiting, and we are having problems there already.

I just meant as of now today’s nil deals aren’t linked to them playing. Money coming from under the table in the old days would have stopped flowing if they just decided to sit.

Some on here on comparing JQ to Sharpe. I think that goes too far, im not happy that he sat. Personally I’m not as angry because JQ does have the excuse of being injured, unlike Sharpe.

The UK you refer to is the UK of yesteryear. Blessed to lived and watch it all, post Rupp. Today is different. Young fans don't have a clue what UK once was. If corrections aren't soon made with firm resolve, this program may never be again what it once was. Clown in the AD seat and a clown in the UKMBB seat. Follow the damn money.
I agree

Coz we mad, baby. We get mad over players going to the NBA. We get mad if our players aren’t on mock drafts. We get mad if our coach looks unhinged. We get mad if our coach is too docile. We get mad if the coach talks to the press. We get mad if the coach doesn’t talk to the press. We get mad if the coach doesn’t play the freshman. We get mad if the coach plays the freshman. We get mad, baby.
We get mad when the coach cry after games. We get mad when coach misses every 5 star recruit. We get mad when he has to take our third option on each recruit. We get mad when we are embarrassed about paying 22M for below average roster.

I think his dad is making a huge mistake. This is going to be a loaded draft. Especially with big men. He might slide all the way to the second round. Crazier things have happened. He'd be better off to tell his dad he's coming back to UK to work on his offensive skills. But no, his dad is anxious to get more money.
If he comes back to college it won't be to play for Pope. He could play right now if that was the case.
