Okay, but isn't the rule that the team that is inbounding has to be out of bounds for it to be too late to call timeout? MJ seems to be saying that as soon as DA had it in his possession, no timeout can be called. Watching the replay, it does seem like he starts calling timeout before DA is out of bounds with the ball. Having said that, it is VERY VERY close!

Just glad this one went our way, I thought this was the best called game we have had for a while. Sure hope the next 3 refs are as good

Also if you noticed their coach was running toward the ref with his back to the coach to call timeout. He couldn't even see him.

He should ran toward the baseline ref in any event Aberdeen grabbed the ball right away and was ready to inbound.

Also their coach waited a split second after the basket before he started to call for timeout if he had been calling it immediatly maybe they give it to him.
Yep as soon as he saw it go through the net he should've called it. He didn't. And he get's an L for it.

He’s right. And that “Santa Clara” coach was a big part of the pitino rebuilding process in Lexington. His name is herb sendek and he was in Lexington longer than pope was as a player.
I mean yes he did try but he wasn’t ignored. Really no one to blame but himself. He hesitated (mistake 1)before trying to get his timeout. Ball was through the basket easily a second and a half before he decided to try and chase down the sideline ref (mistake 2) as UK was inbounding the ball. There was a baseline ref right in front of him when they hit their 3. He could have easily signaled directly to him after the make but he didn’t. You snooze you lose!!!!

These guys don’t know who he is it was so long ago. It goes to show the trouble our program is in because the people who k ow Herb Sendek all have apathy and the new and improved Kentucky basketball fan believes what Mark Pope is doing is a great thing. I mean those of us are Gen X or baby boomer or God willing the greatest generation and we all know what it takes to win championships first half of millennials know somewhat. I mean, the fact that sendek had the game won and his connection to Kentucky I’m not surprised he act like that. He did ask for time he was calling time out. He was chasing the official we all watched it. We all saw him calling in timeout. They didn’t give him a timeout. Oweh hit a massive shot. I mean like somebody said we are on the other end of the luck generally so we just take it but don’t act like he doesn’t have something to be upset about and have a little bit of understanding to the fact that you know it was a massive opportunity for him to knock off Kentucky, who he massively respects, unlike 2/3 of all the new coaches
He was instrumental in putting together the Tony Delk, Jared Prickett, Rodrick Rhodes, Walter McCarty, Rodney Dent recruiting class when he was an assistant at UK. He also met his wife in Lexington when he was at UK.

He went to Miami, OH and recruited Wally Szerbiak. Interesting that his first coaching staff at Miami was Thad Matta, Sean Miller, and Charlie Coles.

He’s acting like they deliberately ignored him. That’s what’s irking me. And it takes away from Owen’s shot.

He a sore *** loser. I’m glad we punked hm.
I've watched replays and noticed that it looked like Dioubate was timidly and sheepishly trying to call a timeout underneath the basket after Graves' shot went in.
Did anyone else see that or get that impression ??
That had shades of Chris Webber, as Kentucky had no timeouts left. I may be wrong, but it looked like he flashed the signal, then quickly realized and remembered we had none left and quickly dropped the signaling. What do you think ??

I am seeing contradictory information on when a time out isn't allowed after a made basket. Some are saying once DA grabbed the ball, the opposing team cannot call a time out. Sporting News says that you have to be inbounding the ball and Google also gave me that answer. It really doesn't matter except I am curious!
You see Sendek not calling a TO until he starts chasing the ref who is reacting to the action on the court.
Sendek isn't being truthful about this because he knows he waited too long.
Maybe next year.

You have to call timeout before the player picks up the ball because at that point the refs are watching the game action and letting the game continue.

If you let coaches wait until a player grabs the ball to inbounds and the team with the ball set up how they are going to run the play and then give the defensive team a timeout 2-3 seconds after a bucket that gives them an advantage of knowing what end of game set up the offensive team wants to run. Sendek was trying to be sneaky

I just now watched it yet again. He is clearly calling for a TO. However, DA and OO already were moving and he just joined in. LOL Whew! That could have been costly!
