Myslinski or Pieper: Who should/will be our starting center?

I almost hope that Myslinski gets the starting center job for two reasons: 1) then Pieper could stay at his original position and not have to learn a new position and, at least in theory, be better; and, 2) I could be wrong, but doesn't Myslinski already have at least some experience playing center? At any rate, this is about his fifth year in the system, I believe.

Remember that Logan Jones won the Rimmington position as a converted center, but also remember that he had some growing pains, and I really want the O-line to click by the time the Big 10 season starts this fall. An awful lot depends on the O-line clicking early.

On a somewhat related note, where do you see Hudson Parliment in all of this for 2026? I say that he will crack the two-deeps and get a moderate amount of playing time but not a tremendous amount barring either 1) injury or 2) he is the next Tristan Wirfs.

Myslinski was recruited out of high school as a center. And highly recruited. However given the top flight centers the Hawks have had for the last number of years, no suprise he did not get too much playing time at that position. Hence his playing experience is at guard. I see him staying there.

Myslinski was top recruit at C. Injuries have prevented him from playing until this past year

you re correct that Pieer excelled at RG but coaches feel he can be even better at Center. He has practiced the position but don’t think he played Cin a game

the two will be going head on during Spring and will see who wins position Possibly the loser will e at RG unless another player steps up there. Iowa has some talented young OL. Will see what happens Will be interesting to watch

Do we know for sure that Myslinski is even back? He doesn't appear to be listed on the roster at Hawkeyesports.com......

The coaches seem to want him at center. I wonder if he played there in high school (Norfolk NE Catholic)?

He does seem to play with a mean streak. That's a plus at any position, perhaps more so at center. He is also very, very good. That's a good thing in the center of your line.

Another Iowa offensive lineman makes the NFL, we are pretty accustomed to it. NFL teams do keep drafting them.

They have already announced that Pieper is moving to Center. This might be the 4th thread that has addressed this.
I don’t think that’s what Kyle’s article (at least I think it was his article on the 5 offensive players to watch) said. IIRC, the staff said they want to move Pieper there, but he has had some struggles at center and that they will determine which one gives them the best offensive line. If Myslinski is determined to be the best option then Pieper stays at guard. Personally, I hope Myslinski wins the center spot. First and foremost, he’s a center by trade and center is way too important of a position to have growing pains. Secondly, it would make for a great story.

Pieper projects better as a Center in the NFL, so might as well spend this year playing the position.
Shouldn’t a player play the position that gives the team the best chance to win, not where he projects best at the next level. If the latter, it would seem that the individual is being put above the team if there is a better option at that position.

OP mentioned parliament play time, but I’d be very very surprised if any true freshman (parliament, Nielsen, anyone) sniff the field outside of garbage time. They’ll redshirt as they should. There’s plenty of depth in that room to not need true freshman playing meaningful snaps.

Prove me wrong though, bc if any of them do it means they’re absolute monsters as 18 year olds. I just still really doubt that.

This is true, I know weight room numbers don't always translate to success and early PT yet check this out from Google re: Hudson...I wonder how it compares to one Logan Jones coming out of HS. These are insane weight numbers for a HS kid.

103 pancake blocks as a senior...5 flat 40 meter dash and 27 vertical. National Honor Society and SD POY. Wow...

  • Powerlifting: He is a three-time state powerlifting champion in South Dakota.
  • Records: He holds South Dakota state records with a 650 lbs squat, 670 lbs deadlift, and a 1,615 lbs total. Bench between 325-350.
  • Additional Stats: Recorded a 335 lbs clean and a 10-foot broad jump

I have a buddy who was an AA at NDSU. He's seen Parliament play several times. He said he is a beast and a really great kid. Said he is a good one.

Pieper because of his experience. The center calls the O-line blocking so Pieper's three years starting is invaluable.

Pieper is listed as a junior on the 2026 roster, so that math doesn't work out. I'm glad he's got two years left.
He started all game in 2025. That was really his first year starting. I'm also glad he's back this year. Gotta believe after this year he's off to the NFL.

If the staff wants Pieper at center then he'll play center. I think the bigger question is if Mylinski is eligible, healthy, and good enough to win a guard spot.

It probably has been discussed ad nauseam so far this year, but I just cannot help my poor self. Iowa football is this severe addiction that I possess about 365 days a year.

I promise not to bother you about my other addictions, diseases, and proclivities, though.

If the 9 game redshirt rule passes then worrying about wasting a year is essentially off the table.

We are Iowa fans so it's all good Ripcord. I hope Myslinski has a healthy and strong senior season. He deserves it.

Run left... also don't sleep on Lucas Allgeyer or portal addition Trent Wilson. If healthy both will see playing time.
