I assume this is still in effect?
Mark Pope's five-year Kentucky contract includes an automatic one-year extension and a $250,000 salary increase if he leads the team to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, extending the deal through the 2029-30 season.

I hope we make the Sweet Sixteen (win it all, actually), but yeesh that's a TERRIBLE "incentive" to put in the contract of the head coach at Kentucky. Elite Eight, MAYBE. Final Four, for sure. Not Sweet Sixteen.

Surely if nothing else we can all agree on that.

I'd be tickled pink if we upset Iowa State the way this season played out, but yeah, Final Fours and Championships should be the only achievements that land you extensions at Kentucky.

Should ramp up. First couple of years? Sure. After that E8 or FF.

Should only if he gets a Final Four or better, but probably

I always wonder why everyone talks his 3rd year, when he has a five year contract. If Ky wants him gone, he will earn all of the hate he has endured, from a pricey buy out. I hope he wins, and earns it, but if not, Kentucky should put up, shut up, and move on, if they want him gone. What else are contracts for.

If we pull off an absolute miracle on Sunday no one should be doubting Pope, lol. I think we get drilled. Their size and ability to hit from anywhere. That reverse dunk was scary, who stops that?

Why put into a contract something that obligates us as an incentive for a coach like this anyway. It would be different if it was an A tier coach but this guy was lucky to get the job at all. He should have taken it for a song and dance. The majority on here feels as if he probably in a little over his head if not totally unqualified, so we need to cheer for a loss or it increase a future buyout. Seems as if Mitch is trying to screw us with these bad contracts. Mitch can't be this dumb can he?

Good. Sweet 16 means you are 1 step from an elite eight and the more bites at the Apple you get, the better the chance as anything can happen when you get to eight.

People are kidding themselves if they think we won't ultimately get back on track if we start reguarly getting past the 1st weekend.
Tell that to Tennessee lol

Yeah, that’s right even if we win Saturday against the unhealthy team or Sunday I should say Mark Pope is the right guy for the job not. Will still be a 14 loss season at the end of it. No if he were to somehow beat Iowa State we’ve beat teams like Iowa State all year. It’s a one game situation one game scenario I mean, I remember when we used to expect to beat Iowa State, even if we were the six playing them as a three this is how far we fall in guys. This is what people need to pay attention to not hitting bank shot at the buzzer against a bad team to go to overtime, but about the fact that we’re talking about upsetting an Iowa State team in the second round that’s how far we are away from being a respected program and no one is going to respect us while mark pope is the head coach. The amount of disrespect going on Twitter now right now it is. It’s never happened in the history of this program. It’s perfectly obvious that America’s pulling for Mark Pope to be at Kentucky for as long as Kentucky you will have them I mean, it’s really that simple our fans don’t see it for some reason. I don’t know if Pope is able to get some leftovers at the end here maybe pull in Stokes because there’s nowhere else for Stokes to go at the end we saw how JQ play Pope so maybe you know we pick them up based on that but we are in terrible shape as a program and we’re real close to becoming your irrelevant. I still think it’s 50-50 popes back next year. I don’t think it’s a forgo conclusion that he’s back not at all I’m hopeful that a new athletic Director will want to bring this back basketball program back fast. I’m hopeful that Mark Pope will see the writing on the wall. Listen to some of his fellow former players and go back to Utah and Coych, BYU or Utah State or whatever he just he doesn’t have the connections. The guy is an absolute mismatch for our program. He probably be good out west for some western program but for Kentucky you gotta be able to recruit the southeast man and Mark Popes only connection to the southeast is Mark Fox that should tell you all you need to know when you when you look over and you see Mark Fox as his number one assistant coach we should all know what’s up, but hopefully players go to him. I know at one point there was gonna be an intervention after the season was over. I don’t know if it’s still gonna occur or not. I know there’s a lot of players extremely unhappy the fact that this guy got a shot at coach a team just say Who but I talked to some people. They’re not happy Kentucky basketball should be so much more than this we’re losing an entire generation of Fan. All you guys enjoy enjoying that a game enjoying you know hitting a half court shot against a team or favored against at lowering the expectation for the next generation.

Mitch is a moron. Pope had 0 leverage to get this written into his contract. Hiring Pope was a make a wish hire. Mitch is a moron.
Pope would have taken this job for $1000 and 4 box tops. Mitch giving $$ away just like his boss, Eli, UK Pre$ident.
