Matt Leinart refusing to un retire his number. Of course who is he kidding? They’ll just unretire it anyway if they think they need to.

I agree w/ Leinart, don't give in to some "pre-madonna**" that has proven absolutely nothing yet in college to indicate they may be worthy of the honor. Do you really want some kid w/ an attitude like that saying he will play elsewhere if he doesn't get his number choice, do you want that cancer in the huddle or locker room?

Retiring numbers is stupid to me. There are only so many eligible numbers. If a player is that good, make it a patch or something awarded by the team or coaches.

Leinart is 100% on point.
With how many players transfer right now and how many high level QB recruits that never pan out, its dumb as 17 for a school to unretire a number.
Additionally, its dumb as 17 for a recruit to want a number so badly that they would not attend a university because the number isnt available.

If I ran a program, it would lose every game and lose money, but I proudly wouldnt cave to this sort of dumb shittery. I would tell the recruit why we want him and why he could do great, but also tell him that I dont want a player who would refuse to attend a college and play in a program just because a favorite number isnt available.

This is why schools shouldn't retire numbers. Give them a stadium honor, but stop retiring numbers. With saying that I wish we would have only retired Keffer's.
Exactly. Do something to honor the player but the number is just a number.

There unfortunately might have been a few others. Nick Bell comes to mind.. R.I.P.
