I have been going through a lot of early Rock music. I think my favorite decade has become the 1970's as it had Led Zepplin, the Stones at arguably their best, and lots of other varieties of music. I haven't come to my favorite year yet. What about you?

The 2020s is my favorite decade of music.

I go out and listen to musicians I love perform.

(Yeah, I know you’re taking about when music was released… but live music is timeless…)

As a child of the Mid 80s going into Mid 90s … love so many bands from those eras, but I can’t lie … 70s hands down (Non Disco). 60s rock had some classic too.

This is so age dependent with the nostalgia pull but I think the 90s were very strong. Last great rock decade and then hip-hop and arguably country were in their golden era. Surround sound stereo and a 5 disc cd changer…
Whenever lip sync and auto tune reared their ugly heads is when music went south

70’s amazing and timeless classics
80’s - just a great decade of music and extravagance- hate I missed most all that part since I was in HS or college except for one Corporate year in the 80’s. Just a great decade overall.
90’s - had the grunge rock and others such as Gin Blossoms, Blind Melon, Hootie/Blowfish, etc

Within a 41 day window in 1991 these albums were released. Some powerhouse albums there.
I can’t get over the fact that hearing a song off one of those albums somewhere in public now (like a restaurant or the gym or whatever) is the equivalent of hearing the Beatles in the same setting when I was actually growing up in the 90’s.

Being an elder millennial the 90s grunge and easy rock will always have a place at the table. But, give me 70s rock more specifically late 70s like 77. Rumours, Exodus, Heros, Talking Heads, Terrapin Station, Aja to name a few albums. Get some early 70s rock starting to trend towards the 80s sound.

I have thought about this question quite often. Always hated framing this question as a decade starts on the year ending in 0. The best 10 year period is 1966 - 1975. That is when R&R changed from the 2:30 pop song to all the great expansion and experimentation of sound. Rubber Soul Beatles and on. Better Stones. Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd finds their way. Hendrix. Beach Boys go beyond beach blanket bingo. Best of The Who. Bob Seeger finds his way. Just too many to name, but this is when it all started.

The 70s were awesome, but there's some music from the 80s and the 90s. I have to throw in there. I think we would have agreed more quickly on when it ended than on the best decade.

I changed the question as some have rightly pointed out that a better question should be a ten year period (or so) rather than a specific decade.

I could easily pick a bunch in the 3 year sections that don't overlap that would make either decade stand out most to me on any given day.

This takes into account hard rock, grunge, alt rock, rap, r&b, pop, boy bands and girl girl groups, numetal, jam band, and pop country.

Agreed, plus country, motown, soul, funk, electric blues and jazz all transformed during this period too. Innovation everywhere.

Started thinking about the question more. This is basically what I listen to at home/gym unless the wife is controlling the music.

Home on Alexa. Mellow 70’s Gold, Mellow 80’s Gold. Rediscover the 70’s Funk. AC/DC. Classic R&B. 70’s Country, and 80’s Country.

Mostly just depends on my mood.

Gym on Pandora. 80’s metal/hair band for weights.
Wanted! Classic Rock and Country Radio Station for cardio.

Hard to beat the Soul Music of the 60's, so many great singers and bands that you mentioned in the mid 60's-70's!

@MagnoliaHunter - what are you sad about? You selected your sad face response to 5 people who said music that includes some portion of the 90s was their favorite 10 year stretch.
...that makes you sad?

What is your favorite 10 year stretch? Lets add to the thread.
