RUTGERS WINS 9-8!!

Rutgers had a 7-4 lead at the start of the 4th quarter, but OSU went on a 4-1 run to tie it 8-8 with 1:02 left.

Rutgers won the ensuing draw control, called timeout, and then milked the clock down during their final possession.

Rutgers worked the ball around and got the ball on the left wing to star attack Caroline Ling, who RIPPED it in the upper right side for the winning goal with 2.2 seconds left!!

What a great win for this team!!!

Important win for the resume. RPI was 12 before tonight so a ranked B1G road win will only boost the team's ranking.

Just finished watching the replay, and I have to correct my post when I stated that Ling scored the winning goal. Ling actually gave the ball up and made a nice pass to freshman Annalise Messina, who caught it on the left wing and quickly fired it into the upper right corner for the goal.

Terrific final sequence with Rutgers burning clock, passing it around and then finding an open shooter with just 2.2 seconds left.

Ling led Rutgers with 3 goals and 2 assists, while Lily Dixon had 3 assists, and freshmen Messina and Kate Theofield had 2 goals apiece.

Rutgers is now 6-4 and got a top 25 road win after playing top 10 teams Stony Brook and Johns Hopkins tight the previous two weeks, relinquishing leads in the 4th quarter before losing. It looked like the same would happen tonight, as Rutgers blew a 7-3 second half lead with OSU tying the game 8-8 with 1:02 left. But Rutgers kept chopping and got late game heroics for the win.

Ling is our top scorer, but from what I saw yesterday can tend to force shots at times. Yesterday as you pointed out she found her open wing for the game winner.

Women’s lacrosse has come a long way. They’ve gotten so much better. The equipment is part of it and I’m sure training too. I still don’t get all of the rules but that was an exciting game. Girls on both sides played very hard and though there wasn’t a ton of scoring, some really great goals were had. Seems we have a team. One area of weakness may be in the goal. We switched goalies at a critical juncture.

I’ve been saying all year that one of our primary weaknesses is at GK. The girl we got from the portal has not been very good, and she was replaced in the starting lineup by Stella Quilty a few games ago. It was Quilty who got yanked in the 4th quarter last night in favor of the portal GK. They’ve been flip flopping for several weeks.

It’s a good thing our close D was elite last night. Tight man to man, timely slides and double teams, and a ton of deflections and caused TOs.

Totally agree on our Keepers & on how well our D played.
