The coaches are failing Arnold. He’s tasked to wrestle up, he will take 80%+ matches into ride outs and yet they don’t have him set up to win with a solid ride. Figure something out
That one hurt no doubt and I blame the coaches for quite a bit but Gabe is not something that I feel falls on them. They have done a great job with him in my opinion.

So the coaches need to figure out how to do better for a guy wrestling 23 pounds above his weight class after losing in OT to a 6 seed? Come on man. Lots to be frustrated with our program currently, but it’s incredible that Gabe made it to the tourney.

I’m excited to see him next year at his natural weight class.

Love how people are piling on the lighter weights for not securing more bonus points and Kooter goes out there against the 25th seed and wins 2-0.

Gabe wrestled like a warrior against the 6th seed and loses by 1 second.

But Kueter doesn't ever get bonus so there is not expectation for it. I'm pleasantly suprised Angelo got a major.

Not sure anyone was paying attention but Mirasola was up 13-3 with an easy bonus, but gave the guy the escape and gave up a TD to only win 13-7 and lose the bonus point that was all but locked in. That is why you don't just assume you are going to expand your lead at this point and get a tech fall, you aren't wrestling Michigan State or Purdue in a february dual where the opponents are going to gas out and give up.

A highly touted high school guy, like GA, shouldn't need to be coached on simple shiit like that.
Along with being undersized, I think there's an issue between the ears.

What if Iowa had a top 5 197 pounder that could All American at this tourney? Anybody know how we could have done that this year?!? 🤭…. Don’t answer that.

Elam? 😉

I appreciate that Gabe is wrestling up a weight, but watching him wrestle is painful (at any weight). He has got to find some offense.

His offense is fine at 174. His natural weight.

Rademacher #6 197 seed for a reason. Just believed Gabe was getting to that ankle pretty easy but backing out quickly. It was always just a crazy thought but going to hang on to Gabe being AA til he isn't. And if not, what a great team player for stepping up.

Can’t be mad at Gabe at all, great effort and up two weights, but man drop to ankle and hang out and you just pulled a huge upset.
Yep. He did such a great job getting out and set himself for a huge W. Then thud.......... He did a really good job throughout the match too. Undersized and short is a bad combo, but credit to Gabe for hanging in there until the bitter end.

Same. I thought going 2-2 at 97 would be impressive...just giving up too much size. That said, I hope when he comes back at 74 next year he brings some offense with him. He's too good to wrestle so defensively once he's wrestling people his own size.

PSU and OSU both have 10 in the championship round, but PSU has 22.5 total points and OSU only 14.5. PSU killing it on bonus points. Iowa in 2nd place with 15, with 8 remaining in the championship round.

Not per Wrestlestat, unless he's wrestling guys ranked in the 60s and below. And I'm not hating, just saying that Gabe needs to use that explosiveness and athleticism to create the offense when he's wrestling guys his size next year. And not just the tier 3 and 4 guys. He can be an absolute beast...or he can bore us to death...

Hes got all the tools. So quick, so strong, his footwork is fast and lite, along with amazing balance. Dude it like a cat. He also has a gas tank. If we had the right leadership and coaching staff, they could turn him into a scoring machine that would be unstoppable at 174.

I give GA all the props he deserves. I do not give the staff any props for not making GA aware that he needed to ride his opponent for 5 seconds nor the fact that they can't teach any kind of ride to anyone.

You said a lot there, thought radamacher (sp) had him dead to rights in the third but he showed some great fight not giving up that takedown. Look forward to watching him next year at 174.

For everyone being positive, here’s how Iowa’s tournament usually goes since the last title. Undefeated or maybe one loss in the first session, giving false hope when 8 or 9 guys win. Things start to go south on Thursday night in session 2 and by session 3 on Friday morning, it won’t be pleasant on here. Hope I’m wrong!
Do you really?

Even at 174 he is going to need some inside offense. Underhooks, Russian 2 on 1, front headlock series. He has to close the gap even at his natural weight he is giving up reach.

IF ARNOLD did NOT have a stall warning???? I wasn't sure because watching Multicast with B1G Ben also wrestling. He needs to GRAB on to an ankle, let him come up and lock around the waist, SOMETHING!!!! ANYTHING!!!!!

GOOD 1st ROUND!!!
