While it sucks our season has been over since around Thanksgiving and we don't really have any hope for next year, I still love college ball and March Madness opening weekend is the best sporting event of the year.

For the first 30 years of my life this was by far my favorite time of the year but over the last 5-7 years, especially the last few, I haven’t felt any excitement for this time of year. In fact, if I feel anything it’s more dread or just sadness. I haven’t filled out brackets in years and I used to print out dozens as soon as they would come out

I figured it was just because we haven’t had a legit shot to win a title in many years but I came across a post on twitter where people are saying the same thing. A lot of them say it’s not the same and not fun following the teams when 80% of the rosters change every year. I guess that could be part of it for me too. Can’t help but wonder if I’d still feel this way even if we were on top after seeing other people’s comments.

Definitely getting older and prioritizing more important things. I still get excited and make an effort to watch as much as I can but my excitement level isn’t what it was 15-20 years ago. If UK makes a run, I’d probably get a little crazy still tho.. lol

Not excited because our situation sucks and will not get better because so many are resigned to the fact we don't deserve better
.
you notice the stretching going on here? “Last year wasn’t fun for you!!!

Uh, no. It wasn’t. We lost a lot of games didn’t win anything at all and got handled soundly by Tennessee in the sweet 16. Kentucky played a lot of basketball before Calipari’s end of tenure. That was a small time frame I don’t judge what we do here by Calipari’s last 4 years. How about Calipari’s last 5? Elite 8 in 2019. How about before that another elite 8? How about before that final fours and title games. This “wasn’t it fun last year” stuff is more mind boggling than the “give him time nonsense. No last year wasn’t really fun, it was okay for the period given the time. Not great not fun. What’s fun about winning nothing and getting soundly beaten by UT in the NCAA tournament. It sucked. Given millions in the newly formed NIL for that? I mean it’s good.

Love March Madness, but not as excited as usual due to UK not being a real threat to win the natty.

I just recently turned 40, have no idea where my 30’s went. My finger kills me when it’s cold and that just started. I don’t know why. Sports? I’ve become angered at a lot of **** recently, like how greedy the world is. My left knee, not sure when it started to hurt like a few weeks ago. I don’t know if it’s just me but it seems like the day I turned 40 all of this literally started happening.

I also want to lay in bed after work a lot which I was never this way until a few months ago too. Just weird sht it’s like the day I hit 40 my life changed for the worse.

Sports just matters less as you get older. And for people that thats not the case they're kind of losers lol
There’s been a whole lot of losers out there funding and supporting the Cats over the years. Travelled from The Dean Dome to Assembly Hall to College Station to Vegas and a lot of places in between. Been a part of the Big Blue Mist, made up of young and old people alike, that just takes over cities. This loser is going to keep doing that as long as I can.

You may want to look into testosterone therapy. I have injections every 3 days and they make a huge difference. I’m in my 60’s and can tell you I feel better now than I did in my 40’s. Full disclosure, I also have cut out a lot of bad vices I had in my 40’s -overeating (no red meat, drinking too much alcohol etc…

We are at the mercy of things and people that are mostly out of our control, and until they care as much as the fans you helped make the program what it is, we will have to settle for what we have!

None here whatsoever. Used to be fun watching SS, reading all the op-ed articles leading up to thursday, talking heads pontificate on our chances to make the FF etc. Now, and for the last 10 years................nothing.

Testosterone levels start dropping rapidly after age 40 & it's only gonna get worse. Feeling lazy is really a thing at that age, I'm 56 & I have to make myself do things at times. Just try & eat right & exercise is about all a person can do as they get older.

Last years tourney was fun, we won more games than the last 4 combined. Was nice to see UK still around in 2nd weekend. This year don't have any real expectations just gonna enjoy watching the Cats in the dance. I ask again why do most of the folks on here watch UK basketball, you obviously don't enjoy it.
A final four with all #1 seeds is boring....not fun.

My enthusiasm has waned because my expectations have been low for this program over the last few years. I used to say that the NCAAT didn’t really start until the S16…now I’m just hoping they get there. 😒

One and done dulled my interest. The portal has made it worse, instead of national signing day let's just run them out on the auction block and be done with it.
Cal put a big chill on my tournament interest with the head scratching loses.
I'm old, I watch games now more out of habit and it's something to do in the winter.

I am no fan of Calipari, but his quote "Coaches win Games, Administrations wins champiosnhips" could not be more accurate. This applies to all sports, professional and college.

In my advancing age, I am finding myself caring as much as my favorites teams' (UK, Bengals, Cubs) owners\administrators do.

Unfotunately, across the board, it's not a lot.

I wouldnt say NO feeling but its clearly diminished over time. The fact that it times up with signs of spring helps but just from the basketball side not nearly the excitement and anticipation it used to have. It was like Christmas morning before!

My love of sports in general is declining- it's all about money these days. Don't get me wrong, it's always been about money. But now it's SOLELY about money and it just kinda ruins it for me. CFB/BB was/is my last refuge but that's slowly being eroded.
Got to agree with you the inception of NIL and college free agency (or the transfer portal as it’s known) has made college sports less enjoyable to me. This will be the first time in over 25 years that I haven’t filled out brackets.

I'm excited. This is the 1st year I've been able to watch the early games. I'm hoping there are a bunch of upsets and some buzzer beaters. I just want to see some good games.

yes enthusiasm for the Tournament has flagged, but it's because Pizza Hut doesn't give out those cool NCAA tournament mini basketballs anymore!!! What are the kids supposed to do when they want to have a driveway dunk tournament?!

I played college ball, coached high school, never missed a game and always filled out a bracket. Use to draw my own bracket on poster board lol. Calipari ruined it for me last few years and now Pope has made it miserable. I've always bled blue (still do and always will) but I'm just so uninterested. No bracket for the 1st time since probably 7 or 8 years old. Kentucky basketball made all of college basketball fun but that is gone. It's a shame but it will eventually get back to what it was. Hopefully sooner than later
Were you miserable last year with our Sweet Sixteen run?

I love March Madness as much as ever. I love watching this tournament. I‘m different I guess.
I don’t actually enjoy watching my teams play. I never have. I much more enjoy watching games that I have little rooting interest in. I find that much more enjoyable than stressing watching my teams.

Honestly, I would rather just wait until I know the game is over, and check the score.

Calipari took away all the fun from UK Basketball with his flippant attitude. He pretty much said he would rather sit home fondling his dogs balls than be involved with it. Looking back, we should have encouraged him to leave right after 2012. Because he basically quit showing up anyways. Pope is no hope. He looks miserable on the sideline. Nobody on the bench looks like they’re enjoying themselves. And that’s because there’s no hope of doing anything special. Will it ever return? Probably not in the next 10-15 years so what’s left to get excited about? We get disrespected by 99% of the media nowadays to the point we are being mocked. Nobody stands up and challenges anything anymore. We are soft. Too soft. Afraid to offend anybody. Makes me wanna puke.

I stopped doing that a few years ago. I would get to stressed during those games (kinda like ours) and it just stopped being fun. Now I might pick teams to root for now but that’s about it.

Yes! Because all he did after 2012 is make 2 FFs (one title game and a team that started 38-0) plus to Elite 8s (2017 and 2019). We have some really really dumbass fans. I mean really really really dumb

NCAA Tournament is the best thing in sports. Of course it is more fun when UK is really good but if you didn't have fun watching Texas/NC State, TCU/Ohio State or the Wisconsin/High Point game then I don't know what to tell you. This may not be the sport for you.

This is not true. We had a loaded roster this season. Injuries ruined any hope. It’s not like we’re 9-16 and missing the tournament. We’ve had some huge wins this season, despite the injuries.

A lot of our fans are delusional.

We’ll have a great roster next season. Just need some injury luck.

We are irrelevant you understand that irrelevant like we don’t even get discussed no one cares. I’ve never seen it like this for Kentucky probably a defining moment for the future of the program.

Yeah, no real hope for UK anymore. The downward spiral accelerates next year.
