One guy I knew, rather well from East TN, married his 1st cousin. There was a twist, they didn't know they were related. She was born out of wedlock from one of his uncles and that guy was long gone before they met. But the mother? Right? She wasn't around either, I never knew why. Her grandparents reared her and story was they didn't know who the father was.

They weren't even from the same town but not that far away. No one seemed to know or at least no one told them. So they got married and had kids.

First kid turned out... well alright even if a little weird. Second? Not so lucky, that little girl didn't make it long.

I am not sure when they found out exactly but I think it was when she was pregnant with the 2nd kid and complications ensued. They never had a 3rd but they did stay married until one of them died.

And that was no joke.

I believe I read somewhere that if identical twins, married identical twins, that if each had children they would genetically be brother and sisters, though technically cousins. I mean, there are all sorts of head scratching scenarios if you get into the weeds.

Wife and I had been married for probably 20 years and for some reason started going through some old family records. We discovered that both our maternal grandmothers were named Jones and from the same county. Never could make any connection beyond that but what are the odds?

You want a real conundrum of relatives?

My mother and her family moved here from Oklahoma when they were young. Mom's sister then met what is now my uncle while in school and got married.

then my Aunt (moms sister) and Uncle introduced my mother to my Uncle's cousin.. and eventually my mother and uncle's cousin is now my father.

Aunt and Uncle have two kids girl and boy. I have two brothers. Now if you want your head to hurt... fill in who is what.
Congratulations, for you are your own grandpa.

I literally had a 78 year old guy describe his cousin yesterday. “He wasn’t a full 1st cousin because I wasn’t kin to his momma. He was a half first cousin “.
If he was kin to he mamma that would be a double cousin. I have a few of them. No. Not what you think. My grandfather and his brother married women who were first cousins. Happened all the time years ago in small areas.

My dad had double first cousins but no one was married to anyone related.

My grandfather had a sister that married a man. That man had a sister that married my grandfather but no one married anyone related. The result is double first cousins.

Does make one go ... Uh?

Same as what I'm talking about. Except my dad's first cousins would be 1st cousins AND 2nd cousins.
