Hey, now - at least one of us is reading. I have no pearls of wisdom to dispense to the good folks here. Better to remain silent ...

Note - It's just me in the press box and I have Coach Forbes with me in the morning....that said, we can talk about this game tomorrow morning and much more.....so no presser from Bosh tonight.

Rose gets UNC G in order to close it out. 8-2 Carolina.

This should have been the move after chewy. Save Mcduffie and Glauber for 8 and 9 if you need them.
The goal, especially in the midweek, is to make sure your best arms get the work needed. May as well be in the highest leverage situations. That’s why they threw when they did. Then, get some other lesser use guys some work when it’s a more palatable situation. Obviously, its not a slam dunk that is what we will happen, but better than bringing in Flannery in the 5th and him not getting through it and now you’re down 5-2 and don’t want to waste Glauber

I get that you want you want your best arms to get work, especially in the high leverage situations. But there might be high leverage situations down the road where we don’t have Walker, Glauber, or Matty. My argument is a midweek versus UNCG is a great opportunity for the staff to find another arm they can trust. I appreciate the way you laid out your point also. I’m here for the discussion.

Glauber had thrown 35 pitches in the last 10 days before today. He was always going to pitch in this game. I wouldn’t be surprised if the McDuffie first, Glauber second out of the pen was decided before the game with a rough estimate of how many pitches they’d throw. It often is in midweeks.

And by the way, it’s not like Glauber has been in a ton of those situations. So I love seeing him get in one in a lower-stakes moment because we know for certain he’s going to pitch in a lot of them in our 8 ACC series remaining

Be honest. Judging from your comments just today you’d be at the front of the line ripping Forbes and the team if they lost today.
To be honest, I was anticipating a loss today. I knew Seth Maness was UNCG’s pitching coach and I figured he would use today to put himself on the map. I am fine with a midweek loss if we are getting better towards our goal of Omaha. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

Our starters are good enough to get us where we want to go. We have a few bullpens arms that are reliable. Our hitting is inconsistent, especially early, but has the potential to be really good. IMO, this is our year. I’m sorry for expecting too much and being critical of the staff.

and don’t give me the “we are only in the 3rd weekend of conference play and we are 4-2” excuse. Because I know that is what yall are thinking.

Haha I guess my point is why recruit an entire staff of pitchers if you aren’t going to try and develop them. I get that you get some guys on campus and they aren’t what you thought they were, or injuries happen. I don’t care what you guys say, you can not make it to Omaha and win the CWS with 2-3 reliable bullpen arms. I really think we are tracking to have more than we’ve had in the past.

ETA: I know we have a sub 4 era so you don’t have to tell me.

I’m not sure where you are getting this whole idea of them not developing a full pen the staff pretty clearly feels solid about McDuffie, Matty, Padgett, Globe, rose, flannery, and chimileski. They’ve worked all of them plenty and that doesn’t count young guys like seagraves or cackovic or even Olin who’s still injured!

See my previous post “that we are tracking to have more than we have had in the past.” But in all due respect, of the 7 names you listed, before today, if we can all be honest with ourselves, our most trusted bullpen arms were in order: 1. Glauber, 2a: Mcduffie (before today), 2b: Matty, 3. Rose. This is high leverage situations, which is what conference and post season will be like.

How good do you think college bullpens are? Most teams don’t have more then 1 guy they feel at all confident can keep an inning clean

Are you trying to be like most college bullpens or are you trying to make it to Omaha and win the CWS? If you want to settle, ok. I’m not settling. We have the team to make it.

I mean even most Omaha bullpens don’t go more then 3 deep of truly good pitchers

I wonder how Hargett would do at 3rd? He came in as a middle infielder…Leave our middle alone unless you see it as a permanent move for Gavin.
Gavin only started the season at third, IMO, to get Nicholson in the lineup. Problem is that Nicholson hasn't been worth moving Gavin. When Nicholson was pinch hit for at Cal, Gavin went back to 3B, and Sowers went to 2B. I truly expect this to happen if Nicholson doesn't show some life this weekend against a pretty bad Lou pitching staff. He's had long enough before some pine time might help get his head right.

I kind of think you need to give Rom a chance for a full weekend series in left. Move Howe back to right. Everyone has made good plays out there so the defense is working, have to go offensive upside with questions elsewhere.
Wouldn't mind this... and Kellis made a nice play today. He's hit well when asked for the most part this year. But we need to remember he didn't field very well when he was out there last year. Maybe he's much improved, but that may be why he's not been getting more time so far.

r43, last time I checked Forbes is being paid to win. He stated in the past he wants to win every game. That’s what he did yesterday. he knows McDuffie is not quite up to snuff, and is trying to give him innings in high leverage situations to get him where he was last year. To me having three quality arms out of the bullpen is a luxury.

The staff sees them pitch in practice, they know who has the best chance to be successful in the games. Why Bring out a kid who has a low chance of being successful? It hurts the team and the kids confidence. It is best to find a place where he can be successful. In my humble opinion, that is one of the coaches biggest responsibility.
