What's your current opinion of SHU declining an invitation to the Crown

I don't have a problem with it. I would have watched and enjoyed the games like all other SH games but I understand the reasons to skip. Teams have been refusing non-NCAAT post-season invites for years. Now, with the Portal, its paramount that staffs are focused and prepared on retaining our core and scouting free agents. That is more important than any of the consolation tourneys.

This year about 7-10 teams refused the Crown and NIT. The Crown is a flawed concept with the 2-week delay. Add in the fact that it is a pay-to-play tournament unlike NCAAT & NIT and there's nothing to gain for the school.

I'd almost rather they play in the NIT - it starts immediately and we can get some Home games out of it. Wouldn't make much if anything but at least it wouldn't cost money traveling to Vegas. Its a moot point though as believe Big East teams are not allowed to choose the NIT over the Crown.

The Crown is “pay to play”? Are you saying the schools pay to be in it? That was not my understanding

The Crown is not pay to play. All expenses, charter flights, hotel, meals, are paid for by the tournament.
Big East teams are not allowed to turn down the Crown to play in the NIT, unless the Big East has already filled two spots in the Crown.

If you want to feel a bit better about some of the anti-Big East sentiments out there, take a moment to consider that Bryan Hodgson apparently turned down Syracuse to remain at South Florida (with Providence still in limbo). That should give you a pound of ACC traitor flesh, and then some, because if you told those Cuse fans who used to invade the arenas down here that in a short period of time an up-and-coming HC from upstate NY with no high major experience would turn them down for USF, they wouldn't have believed you in a million years.
