I drive by the one on State Street and Hwy 133 at least once a day. I can feel myself getting smarter.

This would be one of the largest such facilities in the country. The estimated power demand would be double that of the entire city of Lincoln. They are looking into building their own natural gas-powered power plant that would be the largest in the state. The scale of the project is mind-blowing.

That said, I am wondering where will they get the water needed for such an operation? And shouldn’t we require them to make a substantial annual investment into Nebraska’s NIL program? It would be pocket change for them to buy us all the top-tier talent we could ever need.

This right here, they need to donate annually to our NIL program

What is going to power it?

Answered my question of power generation. Natural gas is at least better than coal. Interesting that they will operate it. Makes perfect sense, though.

As for NIL, Tenaska is the Hawks family, so I'm sure them making money is probably good for the progrum.

Isn't Google donating money to the university? A one time $250,000 donation strictly for A.I. research. Gee thanks Google. That is roughly the same as you or I donating a ******* dollar.

These data centers are a growing menace.

It’s my fear.
That aquifer is the State’s lifeblood
There's a reason why they don't put these things in the desert. As Nebraskans, we need to understand ain't no political issue. Lots of examples. Pillen needs to wake up! And don't believe one second that having this **** in our state will be more of a benefit than a curse. Plenty of examples in other states-- Nebraska will not be any different.

It's all about economics. Water is cheap, for now. When it isn't, things will change.

Cliff Notes

Pro:
(1) More local jobs
(2) Lots of tax money

Con:
(1) Environmental impact
(2) Higher utility prices for locals
Doesn't it take less than 100 people (not all at one time) to operate a data center once it's up & running?

Obviously a lot more (thousands?) are employed to build the center, but those are short term jobs.

Laws need to be passed to require these data centers to use water in a closed system. They could easily capture the water, allow it to cool, then reuse it.
