Now that we see so many teams declining invitations that according to Kenpom the

teams accepted with a total record of 9 games over .500 are you upset?

I was at first but seeing these numbers I have changed my mind.

Comments?

BTW, Seton Hall was #51 in Kenpom's rating. A number I think was fair.

I have no problem with it. Sure I would like to watch more games but this is not the way I would like to see that. They had a shot at the dance and who would have thought they would turn it around so much from last year that they were even ranked at one point and had a shot? Simply stunning results. Enjoyed the season while it lasted. Now have to wait and see how Sha rebuilds and loads up for next year!

My initial reaction was disappointment, but within moments, I realized it was for the best. What's to be gained by playing in a meaningless tournament, devoid of even historical prestige, against mostly lowly competition, and have to wait two full weeks to even tip off? At the expense of devoting 100 percent of the staff's energies toward rebuilding the roster?

Not much.

Good. For all of the (understandable) points we discuss ad nauseum here about the deficits Seton Hall must overcome in the current basketball landscape I think its crucial they maximize the advantage of missing out on the NCAAT provides - early start for Sha to assess what he wants in the portal.

I think playing in The Crown is a net negative for next year which is all that matters to me now.

As a viewing fan I don't care as I'm not going to watch a garbage tournament. As a SHU fan I am wondering what the players who turned it down are thinking.

No issue with it at all especially when you learn the tournament is weeks away. If it started next week and paid them more there might have been a shot. But the time in between games plus no real promise of compensation for the players make it unrealistic (like it or not).

I am glad Sha leaves it up to the players - that is the right thing to do and hopefully that helps the players appreciate Sha too as he tries to retain them. Retaining our best players is all that matters right now not a meaningless tournament in 3 weeks.

I hated the decision. I finally get the chance to see SHU in Vegas where I have lived for 30 years and we turn it down. Dammmmm

I understand the reasons behind it (meaningless tournament, chance of injury etc) and had no issues with declining it

Happy the coaches are focusing on next year.

Disgusted the players are choosing not to wear the Seton Hall uniform at least one more time.

I would've liked it better if Sha just said I'm boss, there's more important things for this program to deal with, we're done. But players not wanting to play, not wanting to represent Seton Hall, not wanting more game time to better themselves, that's sad. We've seen the last of those who play for love of the game.

While in general principle i don't like the idea of declining to play more games(especially after the great NIT run in 2024), I also understand, in this current college hoops landscape, playing in the crown would serve very little purpose and would actually potentially put the staff behind the 8 ball on getting ahead on next season. At the end of the day, I'm OK with it.

I also get the argument that these are now openly paid players, so they are kinda skirting their obligation, to a certain extent. For those that might return next season, you want them to have that extra experience to compete/develop, but that's not really where the college game is in 2026.

Now, if it was the NIT, I think they should have elected to play, but it sounds like that wasn't an option.

Initially sad because wanted to see them plush one more time but was totally the correct decision. I would imagine some of them are probably burnt out from a long season including the coaches. This is a big offseason ahead for Sha. He needs as much time as possible to work on retaining his guys and mining the portal for shooters

Kinda get it. But still disappointed. Dumb tournament but still would have liked to see them play more games.

I think it is worth noting that the Revenue Share/NIL Agreements generally do not include clauses directly tied to playing games. They are mostly tied to representing the University in the sport and performing promotional services, and the termination of such agreements usually relate to a date or the end of the season (regardless of whether they could have played more games).

The Crown is a joke and the coaches and the players know that and have voted with their feet. The thought of watching SHU fall behind in the first half AGAIN, fight back in the second half for games that mean absolutely nothing?? Hard pass.
This is a joke

No real Issue but it says something about their mindset. And I doubt it’s all that positive

If you were them would you would have wanted to practice two more weeks after a season full of travel for 1 to 3 more games that in the grand scheme are completely meaningless? I wouldn’t.
To quote RU’s new Prexy “you want dogs that want to play”. I’m okay with them passing but I do think it tells you something.

Tells you what. At least 80% of our players won’t be on the roster next year. So who cares what their possible mindset is

Rutgers in this tournament! That’s all you need to know. Was disappointed at first but waiting two weeks makes no sense. Obviously FOX is trying to capitalize on the open week between the E8 and FF so The Crown will get some visibility by the diehard hoop fans. I don’t think the vote against was unanimous.

nobody cares. there woulda been 90% people here putting down whichever tournament we play. including those who say it's a bad look.

Honestly thinking about current landscape, I feel these secondary tournaments should/could mean a. lot more especially for mid tier schools since NIL system has invited a corrupt culture favoring schools with money and whoever is in the football dictatorship obsessed ( I love NFL and Giants) SEC/Big 10 conferences.

Still I get that it possibly impedes recruiting like the last time. I wish they just make the transfer portal like free agency and do it literally after the tournament.

Also I don't really the Crown for sure. Just keep NIT with its history. To be fair as long Seton Hall cannot be like NJIT or what Depaul has been for years, you can live with that, so I can live with NIT's or Crown's, but still it won't be enough to fill the joy and satisfaction of competing in the NCAA tournament.

You don’t think our guys played like dogs this year then we were watching two completely different teams.
Had a couple games they didn’t. Don’t believe me? Go back and listen to Sha’s postgame.
They played hard most games though. But now they’ve decided the don’t want to. I don’t care if the play in the Crown or not. But If think that’s a good thing I’d say ur mistaken.

I think ur right. And they know it too. And that was my point. Passing on the chance to continue to play tells you something. Not sure why that is lost on folks here.

If the majority voted against extending the season, no choice but end the season.
I would have liked to see them continue, but I accept their decision happily.
If it helps recruiting, all the better.

As much as I love watching this team play, I think this was the right move in the NIL era. I’m also a “play till you can’t” guy. I just don’t want other teams using the crown to poach our players— which they would have. You do what’s best for the team’s future. It’s also not the same thing as the NIT, there are no home games for fans at Walsh. It’s the right move, but it’s a tough pill to swallow as a fan that this is where we are in the sport.
