The trend for cars running red lights seems to get worse and worse. It was 1 second, now it's like 5 seconds after it turns red. Just saw 3 cars run a red light 3 seconds after it turned red.

It's everywhere and it's going to result in a bad wreck.

Cellphones are the problem 99.9 percent of the time. If it’s a busy intersection and I’m the first car in the turn lane or to go you better believe I look before I start moving.

If I'm the first car in line and there are cars still in the intersection when it turns green, I lay on the horn and don't take it off until they're out.

They always glare at me like I've lost my mind, but the light is green for me!
If you hit them it's their fault. That's the light bulb moment for them if it happens.

Mother 17ers in Ms don’t even know how a four way stop works. Do you honestly expect them to understand a traffic signal that’s constantly changing?
The people that dont wait their turn are bad enough but then we also have the people who sit there and wave people through. I guess they think they are being nice when the are really screwing up the whole system.

The four way stop rules only work if the DA that’s in the right to go doesn’t gay out and try to wave everyone else thru. Just 17n go!!

You ain't seen nuttin' less you drive in Jxn regularly.
Frontage road lights were inop earlier today in Byram, stopped westbound starting to b*tch about everyone not taking turns with everyone else and an 18 wheeler cruised right by me in the left lane right through the intersection.

Not only cars but I have seen 18 wheelers flying thru red lights on a major road at a fairly busy intersection.
I stay stopped for about 4-5 seconds after I get a green if I’m the first one in line to turn. And I don’t care if anyone honks their damn horn at me either!

It works out on average. For every DA running a red light there is another that won't go on green for 5 or more seconds because they're on their phone.

Yeah, I played Lost Key Friday and got behind a Lowndes county tag at the one in Perdido. He did a full 5 second stop trying to figure it out. It isn’t that difficult.

its a real problem in Jackson and surrounding areas, and I have a real problem with the fact that it is distracted drivers on cell phones, a high percentage of un-insured motorist for sure, and have watched it happen in front of of patrol cars, and they do nothing. There are absolute problem intersections run Jackson where wrecks are constant, and still nothing.

So where my biggest issue exists in this is how it drives insurance rates up for our area. I have not had a ticket or a wreck in just over 28 years, and frankly, I think it is absolutely absurd what I pay in proper auto insurance

I know it's dangerous, but when I can I mess with them by pulling on out like I am going to hit them. I am not just messing with them. Also, when they block the intersection I do it. I will get right up on them.

Memphis drivers would like a seat at the table
Memphis is the worst regarding the OPs topic ..

Turning left on a solid green... Memphis folks will sit in the intersection.... the one car in the intersection has the right away to clear the intersection... but in Memphis the left turn cars behind the solid white line....will keep coming from 3-4 cars back cutting off the coming the traffic.

it's so damn ridiculous here with that. Someday I want a big brush guard just to smash a 17er

It's really amazing people that have never backed up a trailer or operated a boat drop 6 figures without learning the first thing about boats ahead of their purchase.

I white knuckled my way from OB to the Orpheum Saturday. Not sure if the ride up, or trying to get out of downtown, with lane closures, on a busy weekend night, was worse.

I think we need to reverse the legislation that banned traffic cameras in MS. This was done about 20 years ago because Jackson installed traffic cameras at red lights. At the time, I was in favor of the ban. Now, they are desperately needed in the metro area. It is so out of control.

That statement falls somewhere on the range between completely false and a judgment call based on the facts of the incident, eyewitness / GPS accounts of when the vehicle entered the intersection, etc.

It’s extremely unlikely that a stationary vehicle is ever going to be determined to be at-fault in a collision.

My guess is that the next round of “smart” safety technology in vehicles is going to be automatic red light and stop sign detection that will override the driver input if speed exceeds something like 15 mph within 50 feet of the intersection. It’s definitely not far off.
