We are not a top 10 team right now. We have the talent and the coaching but this team has not meshed yet. Too many errors so far. We have lost 4 of 5 games against top 10 teams. We need a few more games against good teams to put it together.

Let's wait until at least the end of the third SEC series to make regional projections. We've played two top five teams and were very competitive. Let's see how the team responds after coming home and regrouping.

Watching Arkansas bullpen in person vs. State’s was eye opening. We have a good team but w/o a solid bullpen you’ll never be great. We will win our share this year but I honestly think we were overhyped.
For most teams with our talent level or similar, I think bullpen is probably the difference in the ceiling being “win it all” vs a ceiling of “can make it to a Super Regional or Omaha but not much more”.

Our offense and starting pitching will carry us to a lot of wins this year, I feel confident in that. But obviously as the year goes on we’ve gotta have some guys in the pen solidify some roles.

It's funny you people are insulted by someone saying we may not be a national seed. But will still be good ...

I'm sure I heard Winfield on the last podcast say, making a regional but falling short of the cws is still a good season. Even he is tempering expectations. At least it sounded like to me.
I don’t think anyone’s offended. It’s just a stupid thing to say. And Winfield is wrong. Just making a regional isn’t a good season. That should be the floor. A good season is hosting & winning a regional. We need to quit being scared to have expectations & standards. We’ve accepted “pretty good” and “mediocre ” far too easily for 40 years.

We’ve also played 100% of our toughest games away from The Dude, too. It’s about to flip for us where most of our big upcoming series are at home. Have to imagine that only helps.

and Winfield is over our NIL program. Let that sink in. Mediocre expectations usually gets mediocre to less than mediocre results

I’m not sure I’ll go back and listen but I’m skeptical that this is what Winfield actually said In that context. If merely making a Regional was ok, we wouldn’t have fired Lemonis.

I agree, Pat. State and its people need to have higher expectations. Sometimes you may fall short, but why accept pretty good and mediocre? I have never understood that mindset of accepting pretty good.

Your prediction is on. But I think coaching is fine. It's the talent that's average.

Im concerned this team will be under .500 in sec play when they leave Oxford.
I'm curious because you've mentioned talent being an issue multiple times. Where do you think we're lacking talent? The lineup? The pitching staff as a whole? The bullpen? Our catching situation?

I'd argue we have talent every where right now, but especially the pen is a lot of unproven talent that will hopefully develop this season as it progresses. James has likely cost State two games being unable to block balls up. Hopefully Milewski(not sure I spelled that right) is 100% healthy soon so Raymond and him can handle the catching duties.

Our lineup can go toe to toe with anyone in the country. As well as our starting pitching.

If you're meaning the bullpen and catching, I think more people feel similarly to you.

It's almost like there's one huge idiot with multiple accounts posting on here.

But, sadly, that's not true. Because idiots can't figure out how to have multiple accounts. So that means we just have many idiots on the board.

Here’s how the visiting SEC teams did for the weekend:
MSU lost 2 at ARK,
USCe lost all 3 at UF,
Tenn lost 2 at UGA,
Bama lost all 3 at UK,
Old Mess lost 2 at Texas,
A&M lost 2 at OK,
LSU lost 2 at Vandy and
Burn swept Mizzo at Mizzo.
(Mizzo is the weakest link in the SEC.

It’s hard to win 2 of 3 on the road in SEC.

And as many mistakes as we made, we still won one easily, lost one easily and lost one in a walk off. In other words, it was a very slim margin between winning one and winning two.

We're still very good with things to work on, as those of us with eyes and good sense thought going into the weekend.

It's very early, I am betting we will have success this season. Year one with new staff isn't always a cake walk like some want to believe. No doubt our relievers have to step up. The last game Saturday wasn't all on relievers fault, Ace booted the ball in bottom 8th pretty much open the flood gate. Should have gotten out of inning down by one run not four!
