Pre season predictions, I was worried about a Sunday starter, and a true closer. We’re not going to have the type of year we all want!
The announcers yesterday said most teams in the SEC have Jr and Sr closers while State has all Sophomores. They said they were really surprised to see that.
Line-up had a few guys getting reps in Game 2. Ark-Kansas played most of their starters, here is praying the guys we sat out for a bit are Golden for Game 3.We are definitely closing by committee right now. Unfortunately, one has already been given his length of rope and may not be seen much of later. Hint: he gave up the walkoff last night.

Well,he gave up 2 garbage homers in Arlington, two wild pitches in H’burg and then the walk off last night.Unless Oak is a lying sumbitch that's not how he feels. Just read the article posted above with his comments from last night.
“My heart breaks for Maddox Miller. He earned that opportunity to pitch in that inning. Tie ball game, it’s tough to go to Ben Davis on the road when you know you’re staring at two games (Saturday) in a doubleheader. Maddox has done such a great job for us. He’ll pick himself back up and do a better job tomorrow.”
To be fair, his wild pitches should have been blocked. That’s the area he was pitching to. Would have been SO’s had they been blocked.Well,he gave up 2 garbage homers in Arlington, two wild pitches in H’burg and then the walk off last night.
I am rooting for him, but he has been put in some huge situations and had some rough outcomes. Last night was a WTF, for sure.
I just worry about the kids psyche at this point. I don’t want him being the next Adam Larson. He’s a great kid from a great family.
I definitely agree, but that was a communication issue. For it to have happened on consecutive strikeouts was inexcusable, and on the coaches apparently. To be fair, his wild pitches should have been blocked. That’s the area he was pitching to. Would have been SO’s had they been blocked.
Watched a little bit of uga tenner a little bit. The uga pitcher was more than a bit outside multiple times. He was 4 feet either side.To be fair, his wild pitches should have been blocked. That’s the area he was pitching to. Would have been SO’s had they been blocked.
That first one that inning, I can understand. The second one…not so much.Speaking of…. New catcher
You clearly have not watched Bauer pitch this year. He has the worst ERA on the teamMiller is a freshman and we pitch him late in big games… but not the high MLB draft pick in JB… genious.
We’ve tried Baur 3 times. It was a disaster every time. I’m hoping he can contribute next year. Lot of hype. But nowhere near ready to pitch at this level. Miller is a much better pitcher right now.Miller is a freshman and we pitch him late in big games… but not the high MLB draft pick in JB… genious.
So was I.I think they were actually talking about our weekend starting rotation.
He has only pitched 2 innings. If you give up a few runs your ERA gets high. You clearly have not watched Bauer pitch this year. He has the worst ERA on the team

We have too many pitchers that are basically the same. 91-95 fastball with some okay secondary pitches. As I said JB is the only guy that has 2 nasty pitches. He ain't gonna do anything sitting on the bench. If we had some one that showed some ability to shutdown hitters then fine you can bring him along slowly. We don't have anyone. He needs to have a chance to figure it out.
Both of those kids just need to learn that there is a difference between throwing and pitching. If you don’t understand the difference then you don’t know baseballI’m all for giving him a chance to figure it out but the OP was suggesting we should’ve put him in when it was tied in the 9th in Fayetteville.
Say what you want about Miller but he had earned that spot more than Bauer has. The last time we saw Bauer, he was getting rocked by Virginia Tech and gave up three runs without recording an out.
I’m sure they’ll try to pitch him Tuesday if they can. He’s an extraordinarily talented kid that hopefully has a bright future.
He’s also not remotely ready for SEC lineups yet.
Sometimes it’s just a bad outing, or 2, or 3. But if that’s all it was, I think we’d be seeing him more. I think as a FR he’s the most overhyped player we’ve ever signed. As a SO & JR who knows? He has only pitched 2 innings. If you give up a few runs your ERA gets high.

I agree. Even if it's midweek or an inning here or there in mop up. Bauer has an elite slider at 3k RPM. Needs some reps at some point. He has only pitched 2 innings. If you give up a few runs your ERA gets high.

So you want to compare our freshmen and sophomore pitchers to arguably the greatest pitcher MLB ever. That seems fair.Greg Maddox pitched to 21,000 batters. Only 310 went to 3-0. And of those 177 were intentional walks. THAT is pitching.
It was just an exampleSo you want to compare our freshmen and sophomore pitchers to arguably the greatest pitcher MLB ever. That seems fair.
We've tried Billingsley how many times now and with the exception of working one scoreless inning vs Tulane he's been lit up every time but BOC keeps trotting him out there. We’ve tried Baur 3 times. Same here.Pre season predictions, I was worried about a Sunday starter, and a true closer.
I'm still there,
He's still been much better than JB. Much better. We've tried Billingsley how many times now and with the exception of working one scoreless inning vs Tulane he's been lit up every time but BOC keeps trotting him out there.
In 2 innings he's given up 6 hits and 5 runs and batters are hitting .500 against him, OUCHHe has only pitched 2 innings. If you give up a few runs your ERA gets high.

Or block up a ball on a 3rd strike? Asking for a friend.Do we have a catcher that can throw out a runner at second base ? Maybe have try outs with students .This is awful .
Had we brought in Davis we likley lose anyway because our offense went to **** and didn't score the last 7 innings of the game. We scored 14 freaking runs all weekend and seven of them were in one game. That **** ain't gonna cutBen Davis should be the closer until someone else can prove they can do it. No, he isn't great for the role but we don't have any other trustworthy relief pitchers. That's why nobody could understand wasting him in a 7-0 ball game. BOC and Parker totally mishandled that and likely cost us game 3. Not only that, they could have used him in the first game in the 9th inning with a tie but chose not to. Why do that if you are going to use him up the next day with a 7 run lead? Even the TV announcers didn't understand why he was brought in for that game. Coaching staff has to do a MUCH better job handling the pitching situation going forward. Billingsley out there in a tight game in Game 3 is not who we want just because Davis was used up in a game that we already had in hand. I have generally been ok with the coaching moves this year but this past weekend was a train wreck with some of the decisions. Behind Davis, I would say Maddox Webb is our best candidate to be a closer but he wasn't put out in the Friday night 9th inning tie game either.
There will be times in the SEC when you need to win games 4-3 or 3-2 and we have not really shown the ability to do that so far. But no doubt our offense sucked in 2 of the 3 games this past weekend.Had we brought in Davis we likley lose anyway because our offense went to **** and didn't score the last 6 innings of the game.
