How is that a shot at Kentucky or pope some of you really have tissue paper thin skin
Agree. Too many on here just enjoy whining about something. Cal has always said this about the name on the back. He also always mentions that yes, they want to win and represent the school at the highest level. How is that a shot at UK and Pope.

The days of athletes caring about the name on the front is past us, you'll never see another moment like Chuck Hayes crying on senior night. We as fans need to realize that it's a business and the athletes are the employees. As much as your workplace talks about how you're a part of their "family" and you see through it, that's what it's like for these guys when you talk about the "name on the front of the jersey ".

I'm pretty sure that's the mantra at my kid's high school. That's the mantra pretty much everywhere. Come on man. stop crying. Cal is gone. He can't hurt you anymore
oh yes he can hurt me, that arkansas games last year took years off my life, until i learned to accept that he was going to do good there

I think that's just his philosophy, and what I've always believed is that it's a bit misleading. By prioritizing the player, he gets their trust, and then gets their talents. The talents then generally get him wins, Final4 runs, etc. I always felt that wasn't too hard to see where he was going with it. He favors the players, but it ultimately helps him and the school.. and the fan base. It was how he made the 1AD system work so well.

lol sounds more like a shot at arkansas to me.
Well it’s obviously a shot at Arkansas, he’s telling them what we already know. Arkansas is a regional mid program they wouldn’t be there without him.

The issue is all players have largely Committed to a coach. There was a time that stopped when all teams got on TV where players largely committed to the program. Even still, it’s always been and always will be. The best coach at the most recognized program is going to be your best avenue. Calipari just went too far with this stuff and it’s another reason I wanted him out. Kentucky has always been family, it’s a place that loves you long after your playing days and if you listen to players they’ll tell you that. WCS just moved here recently to be where he’s recognized. I had a long conversation with him at KSBAR about it. Calipari used to admit this but then he got drunk on himself and had to remind everyone he’s the reason. He’s drunk on the NBA coach tag.

The idea that programs don’t mean anything is nonsense and it’s nonsense that Calipari created. He’s a narcissistic megalomaniac who’s obsessed with himself and he doesn’t want anyone thinking he’s not the main draw. It’s not about the team OR the players to Calipari, its about Calipari and always has been. Players will go to the coach the trust and if that coach is at a place that’s highly distinguished it makes it better. Yes Acuff would rather have played at Kentucky. Of course. But is it going to stop him from following Calipari? No.

The dude is going to do & say things that others misinterpret or just flat out don't like, he's always been that way, he just loves to hear himself talk, the better his teams do, the more he talks. I got tired of listening to his crap when he was here.

I've seen plenty of guys in the NFL, NBA and MLB care about the name on the front of the jersey. The trick today is finding a coach making the experience and incentives good enough where the guy wants to stay and play for the name on the front. You're not going to get everybody to buy in, but you'll get enough.

Cal's bullsht was that he seemed to be an agent for the player over that of the university that was paying him.

How did this year's game treat you?

Seriously dude, let him go. I was bummed myself when he left but only because I was afraid we would settle, which we did. But I knew it was time for both parties to separate.

Well it's always about the players and it should always be about the players coming together collectively as a team.

Right now we have a bunch of names on the back that don't deserve to play for the name on the front.

All the players are about money now. My primary objective at my job is to make money to support my son. Doesn't mean I can't still care about doing good work. Same with most athletes with their employer I'd imagine.

Whatever work you do you're doing it for Jesus. Now most people don't have that attitude or they laugh at it but that's the truth

Of course he is. You don’t think John Calipari with pictures of his dogs on the wall in his dining room seriously cares about basketball anymore. Everything he’s doing now he’s doing exclusively on the power of being pissed off because he got jilted by us. Of course he’s gonna try to shove his little 4 seed in our face and of course he’s smart enough to realize, however grudgingly, that if he’s gonna do that he’d better shove while the shoving’s good, before that 4 seed blows up in his face like his recent 2 and 3 seeds did.

He is exactly what we said he was when he left and he will accomplish, with his jilt energy, exactly what I said he would accomplish before he burns that energy out: two Elite Eights.

Continued, sustained LOL at the losers here who insist on seeing Cal as The One That Got Away.

Was it a shot at Kentucky fans when he said it while in Lexington ? IMO Cal is always recruiting when he is at the podium whether its talking about the name on the back of the jersey , the amount of money his NBA players have made or all the special Guards he has coached .

As long as that dude is bringing in top level talent he can say whatever the heck he wants and more power to him .

Cal had:

John Wall
Gilchrist
Karl-townes
Bam
Randle
Sheppard
Booker
Randle
Demarcus
Monk
Murray

AND ONE TITLE! HE can take shots all day and I wont listen
Fantastic talent, no question, but they all played as Freshmen only. To my view, he painted himself in a corner from the get go with his first recruiting class. As he got great talent, they were one-and-done, and he had to reload every year. He had no choice, unless he presented a plan to BBN to be patient and allow him to assemble a continuity plan with lesser-talented kids. Duke has not pulled it off yet, but maybe this will be the year. We'll see ...
