They are
not playing for seeds.
They already have them. They are playing to move on, just like those in the Round of 64, Round of 32, etc.
Question for YOU. Some of the First Four teams
automatically qualified for the NCAA tournament by virtue of winning their conference tournament. If they are already in, please explain why they still have to “play in” to a tournament
they are already in.
More questions: How many “automatic” bids does the NCAA tournament have, and who gets them? If you receive an automatic bid, does that mean you are in or out?
People need to stop thinking it’s a 64 team tournament. It’s not. Just like it’s no longer a 48 team tournament, or 24. It has evolved.
I realize some folks will continue to stubbornly call the First Four “play in” games, despite reality and all evidence to the contrary. That’s their right. They are never going to change their minds, so it’s pointless for anyone to even try.
