You Would Take Todd Golden Next Year Over Pope And You Know It.

I would.
In a heartbeat.

…but if Pope reaches his potential I’d rather have him. The problem is that is unlikely he reaches that point.

Golden is a guaranteed national contender probably 3 of every 4 years. Easy decision.
What potential do you see in Pope? Guy is in his 50s with tons of datapoints to show he's not it. To me, the implication Pope has a higher ceiling than Golden seems ludicrous, would like to understand what you see in Pope.

I didn’t say anything about Pope having a higher ceiling than Golden. Re-read what you replied to. I’ve long past quit taking the time to explain what I see in Pope. Had the same conversation with Eagle and Ortho. I took about 45 minutes to explain in a very detailed fashion and heard nothing back. Was a waste of my time. Most people are cemented on their opinion on the topic already and you most certainly are.

The way some people think is just dense.

Golden lost to Vandy, he's bad. But then those same people still want Pope. Or if Golden would of won, he's so good omg.

I look at things from a bigger picture. I don't flip flop like some of you on here.

why can't we target Lloyd May or oats which would actually be realistic? Golden is not gonna coach here. He clearly doesn't like us one bit. Ditto Bruce Pearl he's not gonna come out of retirement and coach a third sec school. Not happening
Any of those 3 would be awesome.

So many hate threads against the guy yesterday.

Is he an butt hole Yes.

Is he smug? Yes.

Guess what. So was Ricky P, so was Cal. They were considered the "greats" after Rupp.

Does Golden actually develop players? Yes.

Imagine if Golden had a stud like Stokes. He seems to find good portal players and develops them. He improved Boogie Fland more than CCC did at Arky.

Does Golden want to win? Heck yes! Can he win? YES.

Can Golden actually coach? Yes.

Does Golden have a fight in him to want to murder other teams? Yes. -- "I wanted to beat Kentucky by 20, but that didn't happen." When was the last time you heard Pope say that?

Does Golden have good style of play? Yes.

Did Golden make in season adjustments? Yes. Lost some key games but were still competitive early in the season. Look at them now.

Did Golden have baggage outside of the court? Yeah with the stalking, but was "unproven" so who could say? Before we got Cal, many of you back then didn't want his "cheating azzz". Now those same fans here and outside of here welcomed Cal with open arms.

Another side note. Many wants Bruce Pearl. Guess what, he's also an butt hole too lmao.

Unfortunately, moist alpha's are like this.

No, I would not. I want to see Golden without Hausz, Condon and company. Next year will be telling for Mr. Golden.

I want to see Mark Pope with a healthy roster. Last season down 3 starters in the tournament (Butler and Carr were 50%)
This season: Down 3 starters.

there is a difference between sticking with him versus protecting him.

He was a still a nobody for a good part of last season while this was being investigated. He managed to keep the team together and the case wrapped up with zero evidence of the allegations made. You can’t just make a claim like that without any evidence.
He’s a perv. Fla bought off the girls and misdirected the investigation

I really didn’t know a whole lot about Golden until this year, besides he was a National Championship winning coach, and this year I started paying attention, and realized he was an arrogant, and cocky SOB, who would steal your lunch money, and then send you a video of him spending it on your girlfriend!

After that… I knew I wanted him more than anyone else as UK’s HC once Pope left!

He is EXACTLY what UK needs going into the future of CBB, and frankly I probably wouldn’t trade him for Hurley AND Pearl/ Oats!

Dude is the next Pitino/ K/ vintage Calipari, and he was born to walk the sidelines for UK.
Yep he develops players like Pitino. He can develop a game plan to shut down the other teams best player like Pitino. He’s got the Cal swag. He’s young and would make Kentucky a contender every year.

Florida played today with no passion, no energy, no urgency. They must have just given all against UK and had nothing left. Golden looked like a lost puppy. Dykes said, "It feels like there are 6 defenders on the floor for Vanderbilt." He also said, "Florida is being outworked by Vanderbilt." This was a sad, sad, performance.
Yeah he’s a lost puppy. Poor guy can’t win the sec tourney. I guess he will have to be content with the regular season championship and reigning national champion and a # 1 seed. Good grief man!

Golden brought a young gritty Florida into Rupp three years ago and beat us easily, we had a good team that year. You could see his attitude and potential then. Having said that, I thought Lamont Paris was gonna be the next big name. I was highly impressed with him, his team and talent fell off big time but he knows ball. I also liked Gregg Marshall and his crazy *** wife. I might not be the best judge.

I have repeatedly said that I was impressed with Florida but today was not one of those days. I was talking about a single game in which Golden was outcoached and beaten by an inferior team. Is it that hard to understand or do I need draw you a picture?

This! We were their Super Bowl, even though they had already beaten us twice this season. One can verify this by their play and energy against us and by their coach’s comments in regards to Kentucky. It’s comical.

EDIT: Golden has an absolute HARDON for UK. It’s really weird.

Don’t forget, we also lost Kerr to a season ending injury as well. So, Kerr and Robinson completely out and Butler and Carr were nowhere near 100%. Hell, Butler was playing with one arm. Sucks, because that was a hell of a team when healthy.

Most successful coaches have a lot more maturity than Golden does. That team was on a mission to beat UK and forgot that if they won, they would be playing again the next day. Most coaches would approach it as "just another game." As you said, "We were their Super Bowl." That thinking might work during the regular season when you have a few days between games but doesn't work in a tournament playing another game a day later.

When you don’t hear back from me it’s usually because I get it. Understand it. I know you stated the off and def efficiency numbers you wanted and I thought I gave the thumbs up.

Perhaps I missed a post also.

-Richard was a 3 year player for him
-Clayton was in his second year, and he moved him to PG, which had some growing pains
-Martin was the puzzle piece he needed in the backcourt after a dismal defense the previous season
-Haugh committed but the had him develop a 5th year at prep, so it was his second year
-Condon was his second year
-Chin was recruited as a transfer because he needed an enforcer

Golden is all about analytics when bringing in players, and while every team that wins has some luck, he has to get credit for putting it together and pushing the buttons to win it all.

He’a young and hip, the players love playing for him, and will probably have NBA interest.
Bottom line this mess. Are there any coach in the SEC that we would not try Pope for?

Yes sir it was a really potent team. Final 4 quality if healthy, IMO. Carr seemed to come alive in the big moments- its great to have a stretch 4 like him.

I thought it was ****** of him when Butler could barely move and still gave it everything. A quitter like Wheeler.
I agree. However, I also understand the reasoning as to why he didn’t come back and play. He’s not going to play in the NBA. Might as well make as much $ as possible while in college. Still, I think it was crappy he left us in a spot. I agree.

Agreed on all points. It’s beyond obvious we are still Florida’s Super Bowl. They didn’t play with 1% of the energy and focus today as they did against UK. It’s also clear that Golden has an absolute hardon for UK. Just listen to him talk. He went out of his way to make sure to tell the world that we’ve played three times and that UK hadn’t led even once. I mean, who does that?! It’s weird to the point of obsession.

I can’t stand their punkass players either. They act like jackasses on and off the court. Quite the disrespectful bunch. They’re now my most hated team in the SEC. I would pull for duke or the cheats over them.

Kentucky was up four in the last minute and Reed Sheppard played the worst defense I have ever seen late in that game. They won by three in OT. I'm not sure "easily" would be the word to use, here.

You can say the same thing when Cal didn't have his star players. This argument is moot because it can be applied to any coach. The guys Golden got were not star players. He fixed positions and they excelled. Haugh is a 3 star player and now will be a lottery pick.

His first two seasons at Florida were far worse the Pope‘s first two here.

His first two seasons at Florida were far worse than Pope‘s two here.

Golden first two seasons at Florida….40-29….losing record his first year. Second season, 24-12…lost in first round of tournament.

Pope’s first two seasons here so far….45-25…first year he won two tournament games.

2nd season, definitely in the tournament again.

So, by your logic, Florida should have fired Golden after his second season. Sounds brilliant.

Would Todd Golden take you all?!

That’s the question that really needs to be asked on all these hot seat, short list, who is next threads!

No longer are we in an era of who does this program and fan base want, but the reverse.

Who in the hell wants xyz program?! Have seen it in football as well!

Gators wanted a lot of people. Turns out Sumrall was the only guy who wanted them!

Michigan probably had some hot names in mind. Ole Utah dude had a great career in the mountains where nobody cares. Not sure a retired guy was their first choice.

Bama wanted Lanning. He said “nah I’m good”

We wanted a list of dudes. Got one to actually come to Lexington and he couldn’t leave fast enough!

I’ll bet dollars to donuts if Self bows out Jayhawks will not get the top of wish list hot up and coming coach.

We actually got a top of wish list up and comer in football. Why!? Because as soon as Pope loses a game he’s good!

It’s why Bama, Florida got the coaches they got in BBall.

People actually think either one would leave those gravy trains for the crazy train!

Doboer and Sumrall lose 2 games all Golden Oats have to do is make the dance.
