So many hate threads against the guy yesterday.

Is he an butt hole Yes.

Is he smug? Yes.

Guess what. So was Ricky P, so was Cal. They were considered the "greats" after Rupp.

Does Golden actually develop players? Yes.

Imagine if Golden had a stud like Stokes. He seems to find good portal players and develops them. He improved Boogie Fland more than CCC did at Arky.

Does Golden want to win? Heck yes! Can he win? YES.

Can Golden actually coach? Yes.

Does Golden have a fight in him to want to murder other teams? Yes. -- "I wanted to beat Kentucky by 20, but that didn't happen." When was the last time you heard Pope say that?

Does Golden have good style of play? Yes.

Did Golden make in season adjustments? Yes. Lost some key games but were still competitive early in the season. Look at them now.

Did Golden have baggage outside of the court? Yeah with the stalking, but was "unproven" so who could say? Before we got Cal, many of you back then didn't want his "cheating azzz". Now those same fans here and outside of here welcomed Cal with open arms.

Another side note. Many wants Bruce Pearl. Guess what, he's also an butt hole too lmao.

Unfortunately, moist alpha's are like this.

What he has done this season and last is very impressive! Having said that, go look at what he did before last season and see if you would be SO excited. Right now, he is the flavor of the month and hasn't really coached enough to have much of a track record. This board always falls in love with the flavor of the month and so often they are one or two hit wonders when it is all over. Do some of you still want Shaka Smart to be our next coach? Serious question!

Golden did a really great job of recruiting and developing players, but going forward, I just don't see many players sticking around for multiple years under the current system.

I want to see how Golden does without a truly special group of players who have developed an awesome chemistry together.

I know that Lee and Fland are new guys, but that front line really makes their job a LOT easier!!

Golden will probably come back down to earth going forward, and I see a lot of opposing coaches seeking some come around with Golden after this season.

I think Golden caught lightning in a bottle last season. He’s good. But not great.

There’s no question he’s far better than Pope.

But so are at least 200 other D1 coaches.

We can do better than Pope or Golden. But if we can only chose between those two it’s always Golden.

I agree with you about that.

I think his best quality is the quality that makes him so easy to hate.

He's an arrogant turd, but that confidence rubs off on his teams.

Did I say that I wanted Golden before Pope? I said we would take him next year.

That logically means and implies that a coach MUST have success at another school BEFORE they come here. Golden has done that.

It blows my mind of how some people assume and put words in my mouth when I never said such a thing.

Also Shaka Smart's level of competition at VCU vs Golden's level of competition in the SEC is comparing apples to oranges.

he has the same amount of titles as Cal does. Is Cal just merely “good”?

I'll give you this analogy I gave on another thread.

Golden said he would leave Florida or a blue blood or NBA.

Golden is like that little girl when you were a kid who bullied you on the playground but actually likes you and that is how they show they like you. Golden is that girl lmao

-Richard was a 3 year player for him
-Clayton was in his second year, and he moved him to PG, which had some growing pains
-Martin was the puzzle piece he needed in the backcourt after a dismal defense the previous season
-Haugh committed but the had him develop a 5th year at prep, so it was his second year
-Condon was his second year
-Chin was recruited as a transfer because he needed an enforcer

Golden is all about analytics when bringing in players, and while every team that wins has some luck, he has to get credit for putting it together and pushing the buttons to win it all.

He’a young and hip, the players love playing for him, and will probably have NBA interest.

there is a difference between sticking with him versus protecting him.

He was a still a nobody for a good part of last season while this was being investigated. He managed to keep the team together and the case wrapped up with zero evidence of the allegations made. You can’t just make a claim like that without any evidence.

I wasn't putting words in your mouth. I was simply replying to the idea of hiring Golden or any other hot coach. I mentioned Shaka because there was a time when this board was all gaga over him like they are Golden right now. Musselman was a more recent "hot commodity" who quickly fell out of favor. Of course, my all time favorite "hot commodity" was Billy G. And, if we want to go back a long time, I recall when so many UK fans wanted Eddie Sutton. Yeah, he could coach but he also got us put on probation and had the first losing season in forever.

As I said, what Golden has done at Florida is impressive. I am just concerned about the limited sample size for evaluation purposes. The posters who are writing off Mark Pope think that one season is enough to decide that he needs to go. I thought he did well last year and I would like to see what he does next year before believing that he needs to go.

I really didn’t know a whole lot about Golden until this year, besides he was a National Championship winning coach, and this year I started paying attention, and realized he was an arrogant, and cocky SOB, who would steal your lunch money, and then send you a video of him spending it on your girlfriend!

After that… I knew I wanted him more than anyone else as UK’s HC once Pope left!

He is EXACTLY what UK needs going into the future of CBB, and frankly I probably wouldn’t trade him for Hurley AND Pearl/ Oats!

Dude is the next Pitino/ K/ vintage Calipari, and he was born to walk the sidelines for UK.

why can't we target Lloyd May or oats which would actually be realistic? Golden is not gonna coach here. He clearly doesn't like us one bit. Ditto Bruce Pearl he's not gonna come out of retirement and coach a third sec school. Not happening

If Sherrone Moore beat Ohio State last November, he would still be coaching at Michigan. As long as you win, you can get away with murder. Once you stop winning, all shenanigans that were tolerated no longer are. Winning covers a lot as you know. Not saying anything about Golden specifically, but in general, what I am saying is true. Also, Golden was already viewed as a major upgrade from Mike White last year. I really do not care, since I do not know all the details, so I have no comment in regards to Golden’s specific situation.

…but if Pope reaches his potential I’d rather have him. The problem is that is unlikely he reaches that point.

Golden is a guaranteed national contender probably 3 of every 4 years. Easy decision.

I’ll take a coach to be named later over Pope. We could pull someone from the high school ranks and get an equivalent result.

Do you think he would win a championship here at UK. Just keep in mind. In the history of college basketball. Only one head coach has won the champinship at two schools. So for this reason alone, I would never want a coach that has won it all to come here and coach.

Florida played today with no passion, no energy, no urgency. They must have just given all against UK and had nothing left. Golden looked like a lost puppy. Dykes said, "It feels like there are 6 defenders on the floor for Vanderbilt." He also said, "Florida is being outworked by Vanderbilt." This was a sad, sad, performance.
