No the blame lies with idiots who extended his contract last fall.
Yeah that extension will mean we need a new AD as well. Sometimes I think these guys think they are smarter than they are. I am sure Dannen sat down with Rhule's agent sometime when NU was 5-2, there were a ton of jobs opening, and the agent alluded to the fact Rhule had no security without an extension and it would impossible to recruit to NU and get NIL funds with assurity that Rhule would be here. And Rhule would have no option but to start looking for jobs that would offer more years and stability. At 5-2 looking at 6-2 that seemed fine, but after 3 straight blowout losses, losing your best players, top recruits, and overhauling the staff, on top of 18 players suing to be eligible or get paid it seems like a disaster. NU might be a sinking ship and only the guys like Trev jump before they are drowned. Is there a coach or AD that has ever had any success once they were fired from this place?

Fully expected 5.5 - sad to see it come in but that’s why they play the games. If we can knock off a big team and Iowa and win 6 or 7, I would feel a lot better.
Shoot, not even a big team.

Just Ohio, Bowling Green, North Dakota, Michigan St, Maryland and Rugters gets us to 6. Those turds in Iowa give us 7.

The bigger games in Washington and Illinois are 8 & 9.

A big team to me would be Indiana, Oregon & Ohio St and as of right now, I'd just rather take care of the other 9 than these big 3.

Agree! If won 6 or 7 and beat Iowa and one of the Oregon, O State and Indiana - I would take it. Begging for a ranked win before I kick the bucket. Had to give up soda just to add some cushion for me to see it!

Haven't we all established the AD at Nebraska is a figure head that has very little power in the NU athletic department?

I blame Pillen, the Peeds, the BOR, and the vocal idiots on social media begging for Rhule's extension.

5-7 is what I see. This is based on coaching and ability to adjust. Rhule is a great speaker and I think he means well, but when it comes to the X's and O's the man falls short. I hope he proves me wrong, but it is obvious we have no identity
That would be my count on the surface. A mobile QB hopefully will help. But 1). Not qualifying for a Bowl Game will be major. 2). It’s how the losses turn out. Close games are one thing. Not even in the game losses, with real point spreads. This will be major.

1 and 2 combined, changes happen.

This is NU there should ALWAYS be pressure. Stupid Trev and a lot of the fans bought into this lame "Rebuilding and developing" crap.

There are no passes. Each season is the most important season.
Show me a coaching staff at NU that has performed well while under the hot seat? Maybe Frank Solich, but that was 25 years ago.

Outside of Bowling Green, none of those are in the bag for NU. And chalking up Iowa as a win is...not recommended.

I predict a loss to Ohio, who won 9 games last year and beat Colandrea in their bowl game. UND will play tough, and if NU drops that one as well the wheels will come off.

Those two aren't Akron and Houston Christian.

If 5 years remaining on your contract doesn’t speak “security” then I don’t know what else would. There was zero reason to extend him. He was 5-2 in year 2 and we didn’t extend him then. No need to do it in year 3.

I agree with you. Unfortunately though, Rhule hasn’t shown he’s capable of leading teams to even beat the teams Nebraska “should beat”.

There must have been a reason the extension was done, I didn't do it just looking at the reasons. Rhule would be looking at a 6-8 year deal at another school. Even the coach at ISU is signed through 2032. Arguing with me about something that was done by a known professional in the business doesn't make sense.
paragraph
It was done when the team was looking at an 8-9 win season, its first in 10 years, with a coach with a penchant for leaving schools, with a ton of schools looking for mediocre coaches, with a limited pool of mediocre coaches. That is what I assume happened. Dannen would tell us in private that we would rather be in NUs position than ISU's position. And fans would say, eh, 3 wins vs. 5 wins doesn't really matter and we would rather see the thing burn to ground because the spectacle would at least be entertaining.

I mean, if you take my reply as arguing, you gotta reevaluate how you interact with people. All I did was bring up something from my perspective on the contract situation, similar as you. It’s not arguing. It’s just conversation.

To me, what I saw is the Nebraska admin getting played again. Rhule hadn't even finished his 3rd season and had 5 years remaining. At the time he got an 8-year contract, that wasn’t that common. That is two times Nebraska has been duped by Rhule’s agent. And two different AD’s. Nothing about Nebraska’s season at 5-2 suggested they were going to be on pace for 9+ wins. The offense was still mediocre at best and very one dimensional, and the defense was getting embarrassed.

Looking at it from a late October perspective...6-2, extend Rhule. beat USC, Raiola doesn't break his leg. Beat UCLA...be competitive against Penn State and Iowa. finish 8-5 or 9-4...best record since 2014 or 2015. This outcome was more likely than what happened in reality. The bottom fell out , predictably in my mind, but apparently not so in the minds of people who actually matter.

4-8 wouldn’t shock me. Lose to either Mich State or Maryland to start 4-1. Then lose the last 7. After losing 4 in a row, can’t even manage to beat Rutgers.

Whatever I say, im sure you will right on my jock to sniff it.
Just enjoying watching you proclaim all off season how Husker football is dead to you and how you won’t watch any games and how bad we will suck - hopefully you own some of your bad takes when the season starts.

Thats adorable. The coach despises you. The AD despises you. The players are indifferent to you. And the fans are bailing in droves.

What "WE" do you think you are a part of as it relates to NU athletics?

YOU are expected to shell out your money and support any ol' **** that goes out on the field or up the flagpole. THEY are cashing any and all checks until the curtain falls on this tragedy.

There's no "we". There's just you pissing money into the wind.

Thats a weird thing to enjoy, bud.

That we could lose the opener to a 9 win team who beat NU's million dollar corny *** placeholder QB in the most recent bowl game isn't a "bad take". Its a very real thing.

Get your nose out of my anus and get your act together. I dont want to hear from you in a long while.

This has been the case for over a decade. There's something psychological going on with the ratio of expectations/perks/history/results being way out of whack at NU, and it obviously goes above and beyond any one coach or AD or group of players.
They have not to much longer to figure it out before ticket sales will really start to show. Is the next generation of husker fans going to be T-shirt fans waiting for a good year watching on the couch or ticket buyers. I think we're running out of people who bleed red.

i can't get my kids into husker football. I can't blame them.

Sober Chuck here. I go all out one Saturday a month. Haven't had a drop today. With that being said, anyone on this board who has any knowledge about football and what makes a good coach, how a program works, the bullshite that goes with it and etc...who thinks Matt Kenneth Rhule was a good hire and a good fit for the program, should be ashamed and choose a different sport to watch. The crappy, unkept one was a turd fom the get-go and his tenure will be over soon.
Get through this year and with a little hope, this program might have a future. The funny part is that it will not happen until every one of those dipshites from the top on down are fired. They will not, and what once was a proud program, will continue to be a joke among the college football ranks. Face the facts and quit crowning the false prophet that is Matt Kenneth Rhule and move on. Hoping for 6 or 7 wins in year four? Freaking joke. Get rid of his *** now before the season begins. Spare everyone the inevitable and do it now. Not going to happen, so I will be content until late November.
